Yes, this what methinks as well. I’m going with Makar, Heiskanen and Kane here and not looking back. Draft a decent goalie early and then not again until very late (goalies = nutty and unpredictable)

Keep42 league: 14-team x 3 keeper league.
Heiskanen does NOT have top42 upside
Necas does NOT have top42 upside
These are TERRIBLE keepers for top42 value and/or positional scarcity.

It's the goalies here... OP has right strategy.
If a player doesn't have top42 keeper-upside... then you go with "in-season" value - and that's the positional scarcity of a quality-goalie.

I’d ask this…do GMs who keep and draft “top” goalies early usually win the league? How have these teams finished over the last 3 or 4 seasons? Good thing to look at for your league.

I would definitely keep Samsonov for this year.
I will be keeping him as my only goalie keeper in my 12-team league (PQMC).


There's sort of a win-win here, IMO, for Treliving.
IF Samsonov does well, and let's say Toronto wins TWO playoff series', then BT looks great for keeping him at an arb-number that allowed TOR to load-up on skater-value.
IF Samsonov flames out, well - it was only one year and BT can go hunting for "his" goalie.


Either way - Samsonov is now on "Treliving's terms"... not Dubas'
And I think that can only pan out well for the Leafs.

As for Samsonov himself... well... he's playing for a future contract.
(I don't subscribe to hockey players playing any better or less because its a "contract year" - but I do think they are less up to "give up" in a game that's already lost if their GAA & SV% for season are at stake).

And... of course, the backup is the young Woll.
So Samsonov should be looking at a boatload of starts.

I think he'll be a top10 goalie for THIS YEAR in fantasy hockey.
Good keep, IMO - especially in partial keepers where somebody is able to just flex him out next year if he stinks.
