When the camera went to him after the pick was announced, the first thing I thought of when I saw him for the first time (in his fancy red suit) was he looked like he just stepped off the ice with Stars on Ice and not the NBA.
If you dont know what I am talking about, google it.

Siakam trade to Atlanta sounds like it could formulate today or tmo. Houston is trying to get involved as a 3rd team. Also talks about OG trade after a Siakam trade would be possible.

Would've been better to blow it up at the deadline, but now that the direction is clear with Fred getting the bag in Houston, it is absolutely time to blow this thing up. Whether that actually comes to fruition is another story. They've been resistant to rebuilds since Masai took over.
It's weird they'd blow it up by extend Poertl.

You've still got to spend money and Poetl is a guy who has a lot of fans around the NBA. The reason the Raptors had to go as high as the 2024 1st for him was because he had other bidders.
That pick trade is a sunk cost now. But Poetl as a matching salary in trade is worth more than any cap space they might gain by just letting him walk.
Ultimately, the NBA is so deep now that you can have good players and still be one of the worst teams.
Sounds like Siakam is out before the trade deadline next month.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The OG trade should provide a good idea of what the Raps are looking for. Reportedly they turned down 3 1sts for OG a year ago, but those could have easily been fake 1sts (heavy protection and eventually turn into 2nds if not conveyed) or weak 1sts (upcoming picks from heavy contenders), or some combination thereof. Regardless, in the OG deal they added younger established players with years of team control and more runway to improve. The players they acquired (in particular Quickley) also fit a need.
There's also lots of time for the Raptors to reassess where they stand after the OG deal. If the new guys make enough impact, maybe they ride it out with Siakam and try to bring him back, not unlike when they stuck with Kyle Lowry after the Rudy Gay deal instead of tanking it out. I'm not too optimistic that this team is more of a play-in team so ultimately I'd think Siakam gets moved, but if the offers are tepid (like they were for Van Vleet a year ago) they might just keep him and remain mediocre but competitive ensuring that the pick they owe San Antonio conveys this summer.
Not a very fun team to follow, but it's nice to see Scottie Barnes making significant strides, and I really do like the addition of Quickley, who adds another ballhander, a deviation from project 6-9 and a three-level scorer with emphasis on the three. If nothing else, we should see how Barnes and Quickley mesh the rest of the season.
