I agree with you.
I would keep the savings.

I'm leaning McCann and Buchnevish since stats aren't too far off and $2m less than DeBrincat
McCann - $5m
Buchnevich - $5.8m
DeBrincat - $7.875m

It would be tough to say goodbye to DeBrincat but I lean towards the cap savings here. Plus, his contract is for the same length as McCann so in 4 years, he's probably signing an even more expensive deal. You could maybe argue for DeBrincat over Buchnevich, because Buchnevich will get expensive in a couple of years, but that's a future problem to solve.
thanks for the replies!

Im going Buch / Debrincat.
It all depends what you will spend your extra money on.
8 mil is around market price for a 1st line/PP1 forward right now. Fiala, Bratt, DeBrincat are all examples of guys who fall slightly under and could give around PPG. In my league, you need these guys to win. Bargain bin versions like McCann are unlikely to cut it unless they are your worst forward.

Buch and McCann. Look at McCann's Q4 stats on Frozen Tools - he's gonna be very, very good this season, which, combined with his price tag, make him the keep over DeBrincat. Buch I'm keeping because he just keeps getting better every season. I mean that literally - every season in the NHL his scoring output has improved.

I’m gonna go deb and McCann. I am not a fan of buch and with debs hype I am sure you can get much better trade value if needed at some point during the season. I get the cap savings but if you have the room that 2 mil won’t land you much. Maybe add a depth player but again if you don’t have cap issues then I choose deb and have fun watching him click with larkin.
