I love Trent Frederic. Mostly for sticking with his play after his draft-day-remarks by BOS.
People made fun of the Bruins' quote on him when they drafted him.
Just "too realistic" with their hopes... but... also accurate.

Some older forum members probably remember the "3rd line" quote and our discussions.

Truth is... most 25th-35th ish draft picks... if you got an everyday 3rd liner - you got par-value.

2016 Draft Picks made after him:
    1 30 Anaheim Sam Steel C Regina Pats [WHL] 262 34 59 93 70 2022-23
    2 31 Toronto Egor Korshkov L Yaroslavl Lokomotiv [KHL] 1 1 0 1 0 2019-20
    2 32 Edmonton Tyler Benson L Vancouver Giants [WHL] 38 1 2 3 18 2022-23
    2 33 Buffalo Rasmus Asplund C Farjestads BK Karlstad [SweHL] 183 18 31 49 20 2022-23
    2 34 Columbus Andrew Peeke D Green Bay Gamblers [USHL] 195 9 25 34 90 2022-23
    2 35 St. Louis Jordan Kyrou C Sarnia Sting [OHL] 252 83 112 195 66 2022-23
2 36 Philadelphia Pascal Laberge C Victoriaville Tigres [QMJHL]
    2 37 Tampa Bay Libor Hajek D Saskatoon Blades [WHL] 110 4 8 12 40 2022-23
2 38 Florida Adam Mascherin L Kitchener Rangers [OHL]
    2 39 Chicago Alex DeBrincat R Erie Otters [OHL] 450 187 186 373 112 2022-23
2 40 Colorado Cameron Morrison L Youngstown Phantoms [USHL]
    2 41 New Jersey Nathan Bastian R Mississauga Steelheads [OHL] 163 24 22 46 127 2022-23
    2 42 Ottawa Jonathan Dahlen C Timra IK [Swe-1] 61 12 10 22 12 2021-22
    2 43 Carolina Janne Kuokkanen C Karpat Jrs (Finland) 119 14 28 42 28 2021-22
    2 44 Tampa Bay Boris Katchouk L Soo Greyhounds [OHL] 117 8 15 23 66 2022-23
2 45 Chicago Chad Krys D U.S. National Development Team [USHL]

Kyrou & DeBrincat (both OHLers) were obviously nice grabs by STL & CHI.
Good value out of OHL in that draft. [Though - Mascherin - his stuff simply didn't translate to NHL. Maybe he had character issues. Very interesting guy to study - especially since FLA didn't sign him and he was thrown back into draft. Super interesting is that Dallas - who aced the 2017 draft with Heiskanen/Oettinger/Robertson - is the team that busted on him with a 4th round pick in go #2 of the 2018 draft.]
USHL picks of Morrison, and Krys were massive busts. So, that plays into the overrated hopes on Frederic - who at least panned out to be that 3rd/4th liner.
Just goes to show that scouts need to "know their league".

It's easy to evaluate tiering prospects within a league.
The hard part, for scouts/GMs, is knowing how to compare across-leagues.

I post all this because people often go "Oh, Boston could've picked Kyrou or DeBrincat."
Yeah - and also they could've picked Korshkov or Tyler Benson. So... let's give them a C+.
