Kucherov for Dahlin+ Trade Completed

I rarely post my trades here because I usually find them straightforward, but this one has such a massive x-factor that I thought it’d be neat to see what folks thought of it and if there is a consensus. For the top team in my sig I just gave Dahlin, a 3rd & a 5th for Kucherov, an 8th & a 9th. Pretty pumped about my set of keepers going forward after this shortened season, but I know a lot on the forum are super high on Dahlin.

I do, haha. Just looking long term for a core of dominant wingers. But I get that this was a longer term play. Undeniably a loss short term.

Is your league a Keep 6? Those keepers in your first team are STACKED. You’ll have to make drafting D a priority, but you should be very competitive this year, and dominate in future seasons once Kucherov is healthy.

Yeah, it’s a keep 6. I tanked last year to get a load of high picks, then spent all off-season turning them into dream keepers. I figure high picks are great for a year, but top end keepers are good for several years. I was lucky enough to trade Kucherov and some picks to get McDavid in the off-season well before he got hurt, and now bought him back for cheaper.

Is this some sort of limited keeper? I wouldn’t be comfortable trading that sort of D potential (a position at which it now appears you have zero keepers?) for a guy that is missing the entire season for hip surgery. How well is he coming back from this? He might be fine, his career might be over. Who knows. And Dahlin is 20 vs Kucherov at 27.

It’s a keep 6. And yeah, I definitely considered all those points. In the end I just couldn’t pass up getting a guy who seems to be able to get 100 points easily for my “he might bust out this year” keeper. But I get it - I definitely usually trade for youth. That being said, Kucherov likely has at least 5 years of top level scoring ahead.

Good to know. I find him so hard to value right now, so good to hear from someone who owns him.
