Should I trade Matthews?
Another GM in my league is a Leafs fan and has been hounding me for Matthews. I've ignored him to this point, but his most recent offer has caught my attention. Thoughts?
Landeskog, J. Hughes, Rielly, and Price
for
Matthews, and pretty much whatever three players I want to drop from the bottom of my roster. All three of which will likely end up on waivers at some point throughout the season, as I make roster moves.
I have good depth at centre, so technically I can "afford" to lose him. But I had no intent of moving one of the best young players in the league, and probably my team's best player. To get a star, you normally have to overpay, and it feels like he is shooting his shot...

What other elite players does the “hounding” GM have, that he’s NOT offering you? I never think 4 Honda Civics are worth trading for a Lamborghini, but ESPECIALLY when the other guy has a nice quad-cab pickup sitting in his garage. If he wants Matthews, it should hurt him a little.
I mean, the offer is 4 “good” and valuable players, but none are top 20-30 in the league.

Also it would be nice to see your roster to see what possible drops are on your roster to make room for the players he's offering.

That’s a fairly sucky offer. Look for his top one or two players and a first rounder or two. I recently traded Eichel, Laine & a 2nd to get Matthews, Tkachuk & a 5th. Make it hurt for him, haha.

from experience playing with leaf fans they will pay for a leaf player.
To get a real idea it would be good to know who you are dropping with him but I dont think this is a good offer for you.
Cant hurt to counter for a couple players you like from his team if you weren't planning on moving him in the first place

I actually don't hate this offer. How good is Matthews in a league with these categories? Pretty good, but not as amazing as he is in setups with SOG.
Landeskog crushes a league like this. Rielly will be good, especially if he gets his PP1 time back. And Hughes is a piece you could dream about coming near Matthews' star level.
All that said. Do I even want Price? Who am I dropping to make this happen? Hate turning a dollar into 4 quarters in a limited keeper.
Ultimately, there's probably no amount of depth that has me moving Matthews for the next 4-5 years.
What I see here is an opportunity. He's shaking you down for Matthews while demonstrating a willingness to move these other parts, which could be valuable. I would counter with a non-Matthews offer for one or more of these pieces.
