That would depend on who you have available to select
Hello all,
This is for the league in my signature. 2 of my 4 defensemen are from Edmonton and I am not comfortable with that. There are only so many scoring chances each team gets - there are only so many PP minutes for defensemen per team. I initially dropped Shattenkirk to get Klefborn and then realized what I had done. Am I being silly or should I drop one of Nurse/Klefborn and grab another defenseman?
Thanks.
In a 10 league where we start 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4D and 2 G daily. It is a H2H league - we keep 3 players (1 G max), are allowed a max of 2 keeps for each player. The number in brackets is the number of keeps I have left:
G, A, +/-, PIMs, PPG, PPA and Shots.
C - Larkin, Couturier, Kopitar, Cirelli
LW - OV, Panarin (1), Schenn (C), Ehlers (RW), Kreider
RW - Kucherov (0), Seguin (C), Palmieri, Voracek, Yamamoto
D - Yandle, DeAngelo
W, GAA, SV% and Saves.
G - Rask, Varlamov, Hart, Mrazek
IR+ - Tarasenko

You want the players that give you the best chance to win.
One year in a H2H league with some friends, my roster of 17 players was made up of Seguin, Benn, Klingberg, and Nashville Predators, that's it. I ended up finishing in second. A bit extreme, but goes to show that having a couple players from the same team won't kill you.
If someone better is available, grab them, but don't downgrade your team just to diversify from NHL teams.

No biggie having two dmen from the same team, if both match the categories your league uses. In this case, Nurse doesn't have a lot of value. Your league doesn't count hits and blocks (categories that increase Nurse's value). Your league setup heavily favors dmen that are featured on their team's top PP unit. Last year Nurse had close to 200 SOG, but I don't see that happening this season unless Klefbom gets injured (Nurse only has 8 shots through 7 games to start the year), so the only category that Nurse really helps you with is PIMs.
I don't know who is available on the waiver, but I'd be inclined to drop Nurse for a dman who will get more offensive opportunities.

I have 2 teams with Weber and Petry
I have another with Ghost & Provorov
I have another with Matheson & Weegar...
It doesn't matter.
If Klefbom is the best available D - and improves your lineup - then keep him.

It's a moot point now - I dropped Nurse to pick up Justin Schultz. He's been moved to the #1 PP unit after Malkin's injury.
Thanks for all the thoughts. Rep has been given.

I like it. Not a bad strategy either to use the waiver process to grab the odd dman who may get an added opportunity in an offensive role due to short-term injuries. If Klefbom gets hurt, grab Nurse. If Trouba gets hurt, grab DeAngelo. If Hedman gets hurt, grab Shattenkirk, etc. Usually when there's a key injury, there's a dman on the waiver wire who will get a short-term bump in value.

without hits or blocks.. a solid move. At least in the short term until Malkin is back... likely by then Letang will be on the IR and he'll have continued value
