Default Crazy to think Jimmy Schuldt is PP1?

Captain of the #1 NCAA team most of last season with 37 in 41 and 18/37 on the Power Play.

Playing 1 game with VGK last season he played 21 minutes and almost 2 minutes on the power play.

Shea Theodore: 12-25-37, 9 PPP (Tied for 41st for D)
Nate Schmidt: 9-21-30, 8 PPP (Tied for 46th for D)

Is it crazy to think Schuldt could take over PP2 in camp and PP1 say 25 games into the season?

I think it's a little crazy. Last season's blip would be just to see what they have in him. Playoff spot was locked up already. I think it's more likely he doesn't even make the team than to see him running PP1 at any point in the year (barring injuries).

Moderately crazy. I think he'll make the team though.

At best PP2 if he even makes the team out of camp. Ton of good D prospects in the VGK pipeline.

I agree. Crazy to think that. He might make the team and at best get on PP2. Very very very doubtful he gets PP1 over both Theodore/Schmidt.

I also don't think that's realistic. Nic Hague is argueably even above Schuldt in the Knights prospect depth chart and is bound to be a beast.

He's a fantastic player, but 9 PPP in an entire season isn't ideal. Was just throwing this out there for sake of July hockey conversation

It is entirely fair to say at this point that Theodore is going to be one of those guys who underperforms in Goals For% relative to his chance-generation and expected goals; however, that doesn't mean he isn't out there contributing to those chances at a very, very high level. He's kind of like the opposite of Tyson Barrie. But I don't see the kind of roadblocks that were in his path while Miller was on the roster.

Miller was a RH shot, and he worked best in that sense on the PP1 unit exchanging with Marchessault along the right wall for one-timer options. Now Theodore doesn't have to compete with anyone really for the PP1 deployment, and he should thrive because of that. Before, if Theodore had a weak run with the top unit he would be demoted, but now in all likelihood he's going to get those minutes through thick and thin. He's not a perfect player by any means, but he brings a lot to the table, and with the departure of Miller, the seas have parted and all the minutes are right there for the taking.

I personally don't see PP1 upside in Schuldt. What I see at Dobber Prospects and from the prospects report supports that. I see him as a secondary all-around contributor, not an offensive force.

Another vote for it's crazy to think that. Schuldt is likely going to top out as a 5/6 dman in the NHL. He doesn't do anything great but is pretty good at everything. He's a not quite as good version of Nate Schmidt so I don't think he plays on the PP before Schmidt let alone before Theodore.

I would be surprised if Schuldt ever had a 35 point season in the NHL.
