Certainly possible. Fills both needs. Though I think the Isles wont' want to give a 1st and the Leafs would want better than Mayfield. But those two adjustments also fit. I wonder if Pelech could get it done, straight up?
Think leafs and Islanders could swing a deal after the Tavares drama?
Isles need a C , Leafs need a D man and salary space ... My thoughts are Iles send Mayfield and their 1st to T.O. for Kadri... Opens up about 3M$ for T.O and gives them a solid young stay at home defender who still has room to grow (26yrs old) and signed for the nest 3 seasons at 1.6M$
Gives Isles the #2 C they have needed and Nelson slides down to C3

I think this is a pretty good fit.
I think Poile will get the first call on Kadri. Preds need a 2C and they have a plethora of D available to trade to the Leafs.
I don't mind the idea of the deal. Nylander could slot in at C. He prefers C anyway. It would do a couple things up front for the Leafs (not sure it's all good) -
It would force either the JT or AM line into a matchup/shutdown role, which often has fallen to Kadri's line.
It also takes what little 'sandpapper' they have upfront out of the line up.
If people thought the Leafs were soft before, removing Kadri would pretty much remove all grit - outside of Muzzin on the entire roster.
At 4.5m - he's a bargain Centre
Nylander plays soft. It's just the reality. He also provides a larger return than Kadri. Even at 2.4m more - AAV.
His play at the Worlds just brought his return up exponentially.
I can see Kadri getting moved and I don't mind Pelech as the return. I think he's got a bit more offensive upside there too.
I believe he played with C. Brown in Erie.
Moving Nylander frees up a lot more cap space and they can get a much larger, impact return.

I like Kadri but isles are helping leafs by trading a D on a really good value contract if either pelech/mayfield are the ask so I doubt they need to add a 1st rounder
