4yrs of control in Diaz vs 6yrs of control in Thornton. Also opens up Gurriel for everyday SS and maybe Tulo (he shouldn't be playing SS anymore in my eyes. Needs to switch to something less taxing to keep him healthy).
I'll have to look more into Thornton but I liked Diaz so not sure about this deal.

The Astros acquired Aledmys Diaz from the Blue Jays in exchange for Trent Thornton
Good read about him here. Looks like the Astros were probably going to lose him as a Rule 5.

It cost the Jays his $38mill salary and a $4mill penalty to buy him out.

Well....at least they won the trade. Hoffman hasn't put it together yet
I still don't get how it was impossible to trade this guy.
He makes 38mill, give the team 37mill and Tulo and get a prospect for him. You would have saved money to do that instead of the buyout route.

Stroman names the opening day starter.

Stroman wanted this start more than Sanchez

Why are the Jays appeasing him? Trade him & sign Keuchel

Jays have traded Pillar to the Giants. The deal makes sense but still makes me sad. Pillar is the definition of hustle and effort, loved watching him play in CF.
https://www.rotoworld.com/baseball/m...dlines/8949611Giants acquired OF Kevin Pillar from the Blue Jays for INF Alen Hanson and RHPs Derek Law and RHP Juan De Paula.
The Giants get two years of Pillar while the Blue Jays continue to pave the way for youth. The recent Kendrys Morales trade opened the door Rowdy Tellez while this deal should clear a path for Anthony Alford in the Jays' outfield. Pillar is an excellent defender in center field, but a move to San Francisco is a downgrade from a fantasy perspective. It's unclear yet what the deal means for Steven Duggar, but we figure he'll still play a lot given the alternatives in the Giants' outfield.

And the core from the two playoff runs shrinks even smaller. I think it's only Stroman, Sanchez and Smoak now.
He also wasn't a solid player overall. His "gun-ho" style on the field translated WAY to much to his AB's. He was swinging at everything always, which killed rallies. His defensive highlights will be missed, but Grichuk will definitely fill in very well.
Randall Grichuk had arguably the better year last yr and making way less, while playing in 20 less games.
He will be missed as one of the final "2015/16" players leaving, but if anyone thought he would be sticking around long was lying to themselves.
