It's not just an elephant in the room, it's a herd of them. He'll be traded before October 1st.
I figured he'd be gone by now. Him going to training camp unhappy reminds me of the Heatley situation in Ottawa. Player wants a trade, isn't dealt, reports to training camp unhappy. Heatley was dealt that day, or the following day, if I remember correctly.
But if the asking price for Duchene is one of Nashville's top-four dmen, no wonder Duchene hasn't been dealt. I can only imagine what Sakic is asking for from other teams.
I'm seeing a lot of Habs fans on Twitter trying to come up with possible deals, but I don't see any match there.

Colorado is going to be bad either way, so not a big rush. Should be this season at some point though.

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
I think he'll be traded... but I think it'll be in-season.
Some veteran team will lose a key forward, start sliding out of a playoff spot... and need a guy like Duchene (possibly coupled with having the LTIR relief to roster him).
Nashville, for example, say RyJo went down.
I could see them moving a guy like Ekholm (5yr remaining at $3.8m) for Duchene.
I think the biggest issue on Duchene is the two years remaining.
Its a two-year rental for other GMs.
"Rentals" have gotten very little return over last 5 years of NHL trades.
Teams trading for pieces simply don't seem to be winning the Cup - and I think GMs have really soured on "temporary uptick".
Overall NHL team value is more about long-term asset value - and Duchene doesn't bring that.
Sakic will struggle to get (what he believes is) fair return value.
And I think the only chance Sakic gets the fair return value he desires, is for somebody to overpay upon needing an injury replacement.
For that reason, I think the trade will happen... but IN-SEASON.

The only time Sakic was every going to get what he thought was fair value was last trade deadline. He is an awful, awful GM. I do not think Duchene will break camp with the Avs.
I dunno why Nashville would trade Ekholm though, they should trade Josi, the worst of their 4 defencemen.
Sakic will be gone before he's traded i think.

This just in.......Colorado trades Matt Duchene and Joe Sakic for David Poile
Am I the only one that thinks the value for Duchene is extremely over inflated....? That is the reason he hasn't been dealt yet, the asking price is way too high.
He is a VERY inconsistent point producer, in 8 seasons he has only 2 of which he scored above 60 points....and also he has not been good on the PP with only 2 seasons above 15 PPP. So why would a team give up top end assets for a return that isn't top end.
And please don't use the argument the Av's are bad, many of those 8 years they were not a basement dweller.
