Deangelo has a talent but brains evaporated..i think Honka is an easy one here. 1 or 2 "stupid plays" by deangelo and he is europe bound for good
Because of DeAngelo's numerous red flags concerning his attitude throughout his developement, Honka is the better pick.

Honka if you're horny.
One year league I'd consider Deangelo, anything longer Honka. Those 10 min misconducts that Deangelo collects might be good for your PIM category.

Pool #4: Dobber Campbell Pro 2020
Even without all the comments above about DeAngelo's character, and only focusing on production, this is an easy win for Honka. Wouldn't surprise me if he beat out Klingberg for the top PP spot over the next couple of years, while DeAngelo is buried behind a whole bunch of offensive minded dmen.
GET WELL SOON, DOBBER.

I don't see Deangelo being anything more than a depth scorer/specialist which limits his ceiling significantly. I'd gamble with Honka.

Honka, and not just because he's being compared to DeAngelo who I have 0 desire to ever acquire unless it's for peanuts. I like Hona's game a lot. He's quick and smart and those qualities = production from the back end.

Honka for me as well. I think New York will be a really bad fit for DeAngelo, who probably will end up following a Derick Pouliot trajectory before all is said and done.

I have posted this before, but I don't see it addressed in this thread so will do so again.
There are 2 right handed shot defensemen on NYR, Shat and DeAngelo.
So strictly speaking depthwise Anthony has a good shot at being part of the team over the long term.
Last season Girardi & Kevin Klein played most of the minutes on the right side, with Holden playing on the offhand side. 2 of those guys are gone.
DeAngelo can come into camp and if he plays lights out will grab a plumb job and probably never look back.
The flip side of this, ignoring handedness is the following depth chart
McDonagh
Shat
Skjei
Brendan Smith
Marc Staal
Nick Holden
6 established NHL defensemen
So its just as likely that DeAngelo starts the season in the AHL. This would accomplish a number of things.
1. Allow the kid to learn the system with top pairing ice time. Both clubs utilize the same system.
2. Provide a teaching moment which NYR have done quite well over the past season or two. Tell the player exactly what is expected of them, provide feedback on their progress and clarify that if they player does the things asked they will return to the NHL. This is what happened with Buchnevich last season.
3. Allow the club to determine if all starting 6 are going to be part of the roster, or look to make a deal. For example Holden is on the last season of his contract.
4. Determine if DeAngelo is willing to comply with the clubs wishes and be a "team first" guy.
Also another factor is that he is from the local area so perhaps being near his family might have some calming effect upon him. Who knows with this one, but i doubt it hurts him as a player to live close to his immediate family.
So long term, I like DeAngelo's chances at being a top 4 defenseman for NY, getting PP time as well.
For this upcoming season my hunch is that he doesn't see the NHL until after Thanksgiving at the earliest
Regarding Honka, the depth charts in Dallas do not appear to favor his ice time this upcoming season either. Methot has really nailed the depth chart down this season. Next year however... I like the kid's chances
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
Call me crazy but I think DeAngelo has a chance in NY to finally develop into something. It's a good team with a decent pro development track record and he has the tools to do well. I do see it as a concern if he is playing close to home, which means he is close to friends and parties and all that jazz...people pouring honey in his ear.. I'd rather he be isolated from that and insulated with professionals but anywho... I am tempted to gamble on DeAngelo. He has more talent from the work I've seen.
