Here are our tenative rules which are open for discussion:
Full rules can be seen on our proboards:
League Format:
This league is made up of 20 teams.
The league will be made of 4 divisions, however these will only be used to determine the 4 division winners (and teams who get a bye for the first round of the playoffs). The other 8 playoff teams will be determined based on overall standings.
Teams will compete in a H2H (Points based) format on Fantrax. Teams will compete 1-on-1 with each 4 day match resulting in a single win, loss, or tie, depending on who has the most fantasy points at the end of the 4 day period.

Salary Cap:
Salary Cap 1: the salary cap will be set as 85 Million and teams cannot exceed the cap ceiling
Cap Floor 1: the salary cap floor will be set as 60 Million and teams cannot be under the floor when the season starts.
Salaries:
Salaries 1: We will be using current (real-life) NHL Player salaries. This year's salaries will be based off of the salaries for the 2017-18 NHL season. Not the 2016-17 season. If a player doesn't have a salary for the 2017-18 season (UFA, RFA), then you can't sign him to a contract. Instead, he will hit free agency after all of the drafts have finished.
Salaries 2: If a player enters free agency, he will likely receive a different salary then his 'real-life' salary. This is okay.
Salaries 3: The maximum salary allowed is 15% of the Salary Cap. That is currently 12.75 M per year.
Salaries 4: The minimum salary allowed is $500,000 per year. If a player already has a lower salary than this, than that is okay.
Salaries 5: Cap hits will always be in effect. Doesn't matter if a player retires or is placed on Long Term Injury Reserve. These types of players may still be bought out though.
Contracts:
Contracts 1: We will not be using the same contract lengths as the NHL. The length of a players contract is up to you! Maximum of 3 years, unless
they are a Captain or assistant captain.
Contracts 2: Any player drafted in the Prospect Draft will be assigned a 3 year contract. These contract years will not count against your 60 year cap. The 60 year cap is only in effect for the main draft and teams can exceed this after the rosters have been finalized following draft completions.
Lineups:
Lineups 1: An active lineup must include a minimum of 20 players. You can field 4 C, 8W, 6D, 1G, + 1 extra position (utility)
Lineups 2: If you can't fill out your roster to meet the minimum requirements, you will HAVE TO call some one up from you Minor League Roster.
Lineups 3: An active roster will include, 4 Centres, 8 wingers, 6 Defenceman, 1 Goalie, and 1 utility player.
Lineups 4: Any player with a red flag beside their name (on fantrax) may be placed in an Injured Reserve Slot. A player placed on Injured Reserve will still count against the cap. If a player loses the red flag while on Injured Reserve, then he must come off. Otherwise your lineup will be considered illegal.
Lineups 5: Team Captains will be decided after the Main and Entry Draft. You may change who your captains are each year if you wish to do so. But if a player loses his captaincy, he will also lose his contract will only have 1 remaining year left on it.
Lineups 6: Team Captains and Assistant Captains must have a cap hit that is at least 4 million. You CANNOT name a UFA, your captain. You may name an RFA a captain though if he has a valid contract.
Lineups 7: We will be using default fantrax depth charts to determine player position eligibility. These player positions will be updated manually once a year, during the off-season. You may ask a mod for a position change if you have evidence your player should be an alternate position.
Match-ups:
Match-ups 1: All Match-ups are Head to Head (Point Based). The Regular Season Match-ups will be 4 days long.
Playoff Match-ups 1: Playoff Match-ups will also be 4 days long. But, they will be a best of 3. (Still being finalized)
Playoff Match-ups 2: The top 12 teams will make it to the playoffs to compete for the National Championship. The division winning teams (4 teams) will receive a 1st round bye. This gives us a total of 4 playoff rounds.
Consolation 1: The bottom 8 teams will be placed in the Consolation Championship to compete for the Number 1 Overall Pick. This will also be a best of 3. This gives us a total of 3 Consolation rounds. During the last round of the playoffs, no consolation match-ups will be played. The 7 losing teams will join the lottery pool for entry draft picks 2-8
Free Agency:
UFA 1: If a players contract ends (and he is over the age of 25), and you choose not to resign him, then the player will enter Unrestricted Free Agency where all teams will be allowed to bid on the player.
UFA 2: A players age is determined by Birth Year, not current age. Example: If the off season is 2017 and the player was born in 1990, then he is considered 27 years old. It doesn't matter if he is currently 26 because of a late Birth Date. He will still be considered 27 based on Birth Year. Please note this takes effect next year.
RFA 1: If a players contract ends (and he is under the age of 26), and you choose not to resign him, then the player will enter Restricted Free Agency where all teams will be allowed to bid on the player. The difference in RFA is the owner of the player will be allowed to match any bid. Do not wait until the bidding is over to match. You are part of the bidding process just like the other 29 owners are. The player salary could be higher or lower than actual NHL salary. Below is compensation for poached RFAs based on total contract value. Please note gms that own the players can match and captain the player stretching the total contract over 5 years instead of 3 if the yearly value of the contract is over 4 M. Compensation picks must be from the next draft with exception of the 2 - 1st rd picks will be from the next 2 drafts. Picks do not have to be original picks of the poaching team.
1-3M: No compensation awarded
4-6M: 5th rd pick
7-9M: 4th rd pick
10-12M: 3rd rd pick
13-15M: 2nd rd pick
16-18M: 1st rd pick
19-21M: 1st rd pick & 5th rd pick
22-24M: 1st rd pick & 4th rd pick
25-27M: 1st rd pick & 3rd rd pick
28-30M: 1st rd pick & 2nd rd pick
Over 30M: 2 - 1st rd picks
Signing free agents:
RESIGNING 1: At any time, you may choose to resign a player whose contract has expired to the salary he currently has in the NHL. Once again, the contract years are up to you (maximum of 3 years unless the player is a captain). If the player has not renewed his NHL contract you can renew him for 1 year at his current salary otherwise he can be bid on as an RFA\UFA. If he holds out there is no cap relief.
BIDDING 1: The first bid on all free agents must be a minimum of 500k. Every bid must be at least 500k higher than the last bid. Years will be added to the bid. For example 1 year for 4M is 5 points and 2 years at 3m is 5 points which are equal bids. 24 hours without a bid ends the bidding and awards player to highest bid.
BIDDING 2: Maximum Bid currently allowed is $12,750,000 per year. per year. Maximum Total bid is $38.25M
Trades:
Trades 1: All trades must be agreed upon by ALL owners involved. Please follow the protocol given to you in the Completed Trade Section or your trade could be nullified.
Trades 2: 3 Team trades, 4 team trades etc. are acceptable.
Trades 3: If a trade appears as collusion, the mods will notify ALL owners involved. Each owner will explain their reasoning behind making their end of the deal. After hearing from ALL owners involved, the mods will make a ruling. And it will be official. DO NOT question a mods final decision.
Trades 4: Conditional Picks are not allowed.
Trades 5: You CANNOT trade Cap Space or Dead Cap. You can retain up to 50% salary of a player. Each team may have 2 retained salaries on the books maximum
Trades 6: You may trade picks 2 years in advance. For example: If the current year is 2017, then you are allowed to trade 2018 and 2019 picks. Future picks cannot be traded until after the initial draft has been completed.
Buyouts:
Buyouts 1: If a team decides to buyout a player, they will be left with half of the players cap hit for the same amount of years that were left on his contract. Team may also take the entire cap hit in one year.
Buyouts 2: Teams may only buyout players in the off season.
Buyouts 3: A player MUST clear waivers before being bought out. If he is being waived for purpose of buyout this must be indicated in the forum post.

I am interested. Been looking to get in another league. This is similar to a league I ran for a couple seasons.
When do you plan on drafting? What is the buy-in? Thanks.

Yes, i took over the reigns from the failed pool. I was Red Deer and it was a shame to let it go to waste so we tweaked the rules and are trying to relaunch it. We are trying to decide to make it buy in or not but realistically it will be $4 for the first year to cover fantrax costs.
We have about 15 teams at the moment.
Does the 'F' in FDHL stand for Flint? haha...
Just kidding if the guys says he is Red Deer than it would be legit... Red Deer was one of the few legit guys in the league!
If you start on the 17th, I'd like to get in. Can't start on the 10th since I am going away for 4 days days on a fishing without good internet access. How much time between picks?
