What does everyone think Cherepanov\'s upside will be and how long will it take him to reach his potential?

I\'ve always felt that he\'s a quick-to-low-upside guy. That is, his potential is only 30-35 goals, but he\'ll get to 20-25 faster than really anyone else his age.

I guess it depends who\'s with the Rangers when he comes to North America.

Jagr and Straka won\'t be there forever.

Boy, that\'s a special case to speculate on! The talent is definitely there, ie the guy seems to follow the same path of past and current NHL Russian stars like BURE, OVECHKIN and MALKIN. He broke some records set by BURE in the Russian Super League, but that may not mean anything.

The flip side of it is the strict agreement that Russian players have with their leagues which makes it hard for them to cross over to the NHL. I don\'t understand the full issue myself.

It is however, hard to believe that a guy like him, with such hype, will never play in the NHL. This makes me think that he will definitely shine in the NHL one day.

So, my take on Cherepanov, is that he is going to be a very good player. I would even say comparable to MALKIN (well, I am optimistic) and a lot of teams will regret soooo bad thay did not draft him when they had a chance. 16 teams snobbed him before the RANGERS did pick him. Cherry will make these teams look so bad, mostly that some of them had more than one pick before the 17th pick.

But for now, all we can do is wait. I would like to see what other hockey fans think about the subject!

He already has the permission of his Russian team to come over next year. He\'ll be a Ranger in 2008-09. I think he\'s a 70 or 75-point guy...but with a couple of years on the opposite wing as Jagr, perhaps 80 or 85 will be in order...

Any chance for Cherry in NHL 2007/2008? I heard rumors a couple of months ago, but things have been silent recently

your numbers seem a little off.
considering you have him at 95 point long term potential in your guide.
    what\'s up ?

gomez will make him a star....
