Good luck proving that.
Couldn't Toronto not be punished for tampering if he ends up signing there?
Good luck proving that.
Because his dad works for the Leafs isn't evidence of tampering...I'm sure there has been communications though, something I bet happens all the time with teams talking to players whom they own zero rights for. But proving it ever happened with irrefutable evidence is going to be pretty difficult.
it's official, he will test FA:

hopefully he doesn't take the schultz route and picks a team where he can be put in a position to succeed.Representatives for Jimmy Vesey today informed NSH their client will be exercising his right to unrestricted free agency on Aug. 15. #TSN
Let the speculation/rumors begin. Unfortunately, we have to wait until August 15th to finally know where he goes at the earliest.
his rights can still be traded before then, although unlikely.
i think it's bs what he's doing, even if he signs with the leafs. they need to fix this in the next CBA so that teams like the preds/ducks etc get some sort of compensation if the player they drafted pulls this kind of shit.
True. I just dont understand his reasoning here. He could have started playing immediately with Nashville and also burned off a year from his ELC in doing so (getting him closer to a larger payday coming off that ELC). He won't get any more money elsewhere because he will still be signing an ELC with another team and Nashville was probably offering him a top six role right out of the gate on a playoff bound team. Strange.

So his father was signed on as a scout by Toronto while his brother Nolan is also in the Leaf organization.

EDIT: His father, Jim senior, was signed on last summer. I'm guessing some of you already knew that.
It would be funny if he signed a 1yr with the Preds just to be in the playoffs.

I don't think it was about money or time. If it was about burning off years of his ELC and/or getting paid he would have signed last summer.
I was expecting Vesey to make his debut for Nashville on Saturday since Harvard loss on Friday. As soon as that didn't happen I knew he was holding out. Again, usually these college signings happen quick as the paperwork is already filled out and the team is just waiting for the player to be eliminated from the tourny.
Also, apparently Vesey's dad approached the Leafs organization for a job this summer and not the other way around. I'm not sure when that happened and I wonder if the Leafs drafted Nolan (Jimmy's brother) because of that. Either way Toronto seems like the favourite for sure now. Boston could be another option. Hometown kid.
I agree. Teams should be compensated when their prospects do this.
Mark Jankowski is another 'top' NCAA player who can pull this move this year.
Trash move and I hope he ends up like Schultz. It would be very similarl if he went to Toronto.
I hope he ends up like Wheeler. It would be very similar if he went to Toronto.
I don't get the hostility. If you're a college player and want to get your degree, why wouldn't you wait another 4 months and have the choice to sign anywhere?
No hostility on my end. It's their right to do that. But I do agree that teams should be compensated.
