You could also throw Neuvirth into the mix (although I\'m not sure he has a leg up on Varlamov).
I\'m drafting my keeper league team and am ready to pull the trigger on a goalie prospect. The gems I have my eye on are below:
Helenius - TB
Larsson - DET
McCollum - DET
Pickard - NAS
I already have Backstrom, Leclaire, Vokoun, Harding, and Bishop on my team, so I can afford to wait on one of these.
Any comments/suggestions on these goalies? I get the impression that an ideal situation is coming up in a year or 2 for one of the Detroit goalie prospects. Agree/disagree?
Thx.

I\'ve grown pessimistic about Detroit\'s goalie situation, and fully believe that they\'ll buy a replacement for Osgood when Chris is done. I don\'t think McCollum/Larsson have a shot at getting the starter job unless they suddenly become phenoms.
I\'d personally go for Helenius. That\'s my favourite of the bunch.

If you can wait, I would take Helenius.
He\'s a few years down the road, but he\'ll definitley be a NHL starter one way or another.
It just might not be in TB though.

From that group I\'d lean towards Pickard, Helenius and McCollum in that order. Helenius has Ramo in front of him on the depth chart and he\'s also one heck of a prospect. McCollum is another stellar prospect, but he has Jimmy Howard to compete with as well as Larsson. Not exactly the best position to be in goalie wise. Not to mention that they\'ll likely sign a free agent goalie when Osgood is done like Lockedge said. Pickard is the only one that appears to be the only high end goalie prospect in his teams system. That all can change very quickly but that\'s just how I look at it from an organizational depth POV.I\'m drafting my keeper league team and am ready to pull the trigger on a goalie prospect.
