I would try to rent or get cheap used equipment first...I would also recommend working on your skating a lot before you go full goalie-mode. It's a tough position to play. Good luck

My recommendation. Find some public skate times in your area. Find some skates on kijiji or something like that, make sure they're comfortable and then......strap on your helmet, have a red bull and a large double double .......bet you'd skate really fast!

try public skating first - don't buy expensive equipment just yet....

I blend really well into the ice and boards making me very elusive and a dangerous to play against. My teammates call me the "predator"......cause it was elusive blah blah blah ....
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.

    100% CORRECT

If you are serious about this, and kudos to you Sir, the most important thing you can do is to get on the ice and skate skate skate!

Find out the public skating times and get out on the ice a few times per week. Your enjoyment of your new endeavour is directly linked to your ability while standing on two blades. You do not need to go out this summer with the goal of becoming the "best skater ever", you just need to be comfortable on your feet to the point where you mind is not 100% focused on just maintaining balance.

    Have fun and good luck.

Stuntman - listen to those who say you need to skate well. Even if goaltending was motionless (which it is not) the goalie still needs balance. I also played goal (not as much as Axeman) and I wasn't the best skater but you need strength to move around because once the goalie gear is on, you will weigh more than you ever imagined. I have also seen poor skaters attempt to play goal and numerous times lose their balance and fall into the net, usually at the worst opportune time.

I am not saying to not play goal. I am saying learn to skate because playing goal is extremely fun and satisfying, especially when making spectacular saves and I think you would like it. If you can borrow equipment but purchase your own helmet I also recommend buying your own cup/jockstrap as well. You won't want an ordinary cup...they make heavy duty ones for goalies because us goalies got the biggest balls.

On a side note, during fights it helps to keep your helmet on and punch with your blocker. I assume you won't need to fight though.
