I dont think the difference between these two is great enough that the picks need to be in there.
Would you do Tavares and 2 first rounders for McDavid and 2 second rounders? Too rich?

It's up to you and how badly you want McDavid.
Me, I'd try to argue my way out of giving up two 1st round picks on top of Johnny T.

Have you floated this idea to the McDavid owner already? I think if they like JT they'll do it without the picks, but if they like McDavid they won't do it even with the picks. Try the idea of JT for McD straight up if that's what you want.

As a Tavares owner I would want more info on your league before saying definitively, however if its a very limited keeper like 3-5 there is no way I'm making that deal as a Tavares owner as those two picks could be massive for your team going forward depending on what type of position you are in and your team depth. Tavares is an established superstar theres no way those 2 first rounders need to be thrown in there in my opinion. In my league where 110 players are off the board at draft time I probably take that deal but would definitely start with a straight up off. Unfortunately youd be selling very low on Tavares, I just got an offer for Datsyuk and first rounder, oh how quickly people forget.

I would completely drop the draft picks from the equation and look for a straight up deal, if that doesn't work offer JT and a pick for McDavid.

In my league there is no scenario where JT is enough to get McDavid straight up - and if 2 1sts were added, they'd have to be top 5 picks.
I'm not saying it's fair value necessarily; I'm just saying that's what it would take. The hype-train is going full speed ahead in EDM.

I'm in 11th of 14 this year. It's a keep 4 league, and if the season ended today, I'd be keeping: Tavares, Getzlaf, Kucherov and Eichel. Maybe having Eichel is enough youth to take me forward? But maybe McEichel would be dynamic for 10 years to come?
I would do an even swap without thinking twice.
I would seriously consider Tavares and (one) 1st for McDavid and (one) 2nd. Push comes to shove, I'd cave and do it.
But... Tavares and (two) 1sts is too rich.

I think fung has it right.
Straight up swap is not close IMO, and that comes from a JT owner.
JT and a first for McD and a second seems about right. But Push comes to shove I'd likely agree to give more. Just not another first.
