EDM won the NHL lottery, so our 3rd last team ("Chicago") also won the lottery.

Poor guy. He took it... pretty well.
Kudos for him for holding his head high and realizing there were still several good draft picks for his re-build.

    Round 1:
    1. Chicago - CONNOR MCDAVID
    2. Pittsburgh - JACK EICHEL
    3. Pittsburgh (via MIN) - DYLAN STROME

    4. Edmonton - MITCH MARNER
    5. Pittsburgh (via SJ via MIN via DAL) - MATHEW BARZAL
    6. Pittsburgh (via WAS) - PAVEL ZACHA
If Eichel hadn't been available to me, I might have felt differently. Hopefully the 2-year rebuild is over.

I was just as happy to get Marner here.

I'd have prefered Eichel, but Marner is a nice consolation piece for my team going forward.

The flaw here is that there is no price. I could offer my Ovechkin/Giroux/Benn for McDavid and get turned down. But I hear you - there is a limit to what I'd pay for "a shot"

Funny enough, something similar happened in my keep 15 league with a GM that spent the past 2 seasons acquiring 1st round picks. Some of the deals he fleeced GM's and others he hurt himself all in an effort to get both McDavid and Echiel. Well in our lottery draft we pull names out of a hat for the top 5 spots in the draft. This GM had 4/5 of those lottery picks with the last one belonging to the 2nd to last team that had refused every offer that was sent to him for that pick. So we all gathered in person over beers and the look on the GM's face was priceless when he realized he lost. All those bad trades and planning and the 2nd to last place team walked away with McDavid. It was golden. Funny enough now is the GM is trying to move the other picks as he won't have enough draft spots on his team to use them all.

One of those times it makes me think there is a hockey god somewhere

to have those players and consistently be in rebuild, serves the guy right for losing...maybe he'll do the same thing trying to get Matthews next season and sewer himself even more

We had the exact scenario as Dobber. 5 teams missing playoffs. 5,4,3,2,1 balls to the missing teams. One guy owned 11 of 15 balls and ended up with 2,3,4,5 picks. lol.

The pick that ended up getting him Eichel had a trade of: Kelser, Desharnais and a 4th for Wennberg and the 1st round pick at the start of the year.
