Its funny how the Oilers are now 'too deep' for top end centers. I hope Draisaitl and RNH stay, not traded, and with Mcdavid its a given he will be top dog by his 2nd season. Lander and Gordon slot into the 3/4C position. Maybe Draisaitl sees more work as top 6 winger next year and the Oilers break him as a center more gradually? Some of that top 6/9 depth needs to be traded this summer...

The rule of thumb is that you can never have enough high-end centers especially in the west. They will try to keep all three Draisaitl, RNH, and McDavid as long as possible and shed cap space elsewhere.

Considering Draisaitl's size, I don't think they move any of them either. They need a big force down the middle.

The Habs need a big center with some nice skill down the middle. The only thing about Draisaitl is his slow and plodding skating style is nontraditional in Montreal - a team based on speed and quickness. Still a move they would have to make though.

By "they", do you mean the Oilers or Habs would need to make this move?

    Habs.

It would be a terrible move for the Oilers.

What do the Habs have the Oilers would want? Tinordi in theory fits but he hasn't developed as quickly as hoped... Right now hed need a big jump in development to be more than a #5. Fucale? I hope not. Petry? The Oilers would love to have a player like Petry.

I don't see these teams as a good match.

I really don't see the Oilers and Habs as trading partners as this point. The Oilers need top-4 D-men and a goalie with actual starting experience.

Off of the Habs roster that means: Price, Subban, Petry and maybe Emelin. Given the first two aren't going anywhere, the Petry bridge is burned that just leaves Emelin, which is not enough to focus a deal around.

Plenty of places to get defense. Could sign free agents like Cody Franson, or go after trades for guys like Bouwmeester, Carle, Garrison or even Neon Dion from Toronto.

I'm surprised nobody has piped up and feel Mike Green could be a fit? He would only help a potentially supercharged PP and provide a shot from the point that the Oil are desperate for. He can still skate with the forwards and get that first pass up. I know, I know, the Oil need DEFENSIVE help but Green is still better than Schultz in that area.

I am almost afraid of what Green will cost for the return. Sure, he's a top 4 Dman being under-utilized in Washington right now, but he's going to cost someone a bundle this offseason.

I don't think Green can bring it any longer. I don't know if injuries have caught up to him, but he just doesn't play offense like he used to and we all know he can't play defense. Plus, like Axe said, he will get way overpaid for what he brings. I predict that whatever deal he signs (no matter what team), it will look like one of the worse deals in the NHL within a couple of years (similar to the way Brad Richards and David Clarkson got way overpaid).

Can Draisaitl play wing? Cuz Buff would likely be in play as a trade partner there.
