Yet another deal that seems to shoot down the idea that Penner\'s contract is going to rocket up RFA contracts.
TSN.CA is reporting that Parise has signed a 4-year $12.5 million deal. No link because I\'m lazy (sorry!).
Considering the type of deals that have been given out lately, this is a great deal for NJ. Parise broke 60 points last season, and was (debatably) the most dangerous Devil in their limited playoff appearance last season.
This is also great for fantasy Parise owners. I would all but guarantee that he at least gets a look for the top line centre spot this season, and if not then he\'s still in good company with Zajac again on the 2nd line. If he gets significant 1st line time, he could easily push 80 points, or likely have a solid 70+ if he\'s on the 2nd line. He proved his durability as well, so unless something unthinkable happens he looks good for all those 4 years.
Actually, I think I\'ve just convinced myself I should pick him up...
Full Keeper Team, straight points, no PIMs:
C Under construction
LW Under construction
RW Under construction
D Under construction
G Under construction
Farm Under construction

I used to hate/loathe nj for various reasons:
scott stevens - not a big fan (basically jealous)
marty brodeur - i think he\'s a whiny brat (basically jealous)
defensive system
unentertaining play style etc...
but at least they have the offensive talent and flair now that they could be very exciting to watch in the coming years... we\'ll see...

This is great news for me! Not only as a Devils fan, but also (hopefully) as a Parise owner next year. I love what this kid brings to the table. He is a very well rounded player and should be a star in this league for years to come. I do agree that NJ got lucky to sign him for so cheap, kudos to Lou and Parise

That defensive style is the way to go in the new NHL. It stifles your own offensive players so when it comes to free agency time a teams players are comparable to others that score 20 pts less than thier potential. It keeps salaries down and wins games to boot. Who cares about entertainment! Way to go Lou. Just keep your act in New Jersey where nobody cares.
Yeah but the major problem there is without Brodeur that system goes down the shitter in a way that will make the collapse of the Roman empire look small.
