Groovy.
Great! I have no problem admitting I'm wrong if he's still here when elliot is back.

"Both sides know this is a short-term situation. When Elliott returns from his sprained knee, the Blues’ goalie tandem will go back to being him and Allen. Moving either the 29-year-old Elliott or the 24-year-old Allen, both of whom the team controls until 2017, to keep the 42-year-old Brodeur, whose future is very uncertain, would amount to general manager malpractice by Doug Armstrong. Brodeur’s best hope is that his play in the short term with the Blues shows the rest of the league he can still play at this level and help him find a friendly landing place for the remainder of the season."
Groovy.

Exactly. Your prediction is going to be chopped to bits. The tree represents your prediction.
What a weird bonus. What if he wins games 5-4 like he did with the devils last year? Doesn't mean he earned the team those points.

Brodeur bonuses: 10k for every point he earns the team in standings; 125k if he's on NHL roster Feb. 1; 125k if he's on NHL roster March 4

That's whether it's Blues NHL roster or another team. Plus also playoff bonuses based on team winnings rounds and his minutes in that
Not to break your little fun guys, but Hitch just admitted that Brodeur would be a short term fix, and that when Elliot is ready to go, they'll stick with him and Allen.

Whatever, I picked him up 4 days ago when you all thought this was not possible. To add insurance I even snagged Binnington, haha. Now I can free Binnington and pickup a more useful player.
Bottom line from this debate is it will be determined by how long Elliott is out and how well Brodeur plays, to see if he sticks around.
Guys that need some goaltending help can pick him up for some potential short term upside - worth the gamble especially on leagues with W's.

Yeah, I figure Hitch isn't above throwing a little bullshlt out there for public consumption.
As someone pointed out above, the Blues keeping Brodeur for the long-run over Elliott or Allen just doesn't make a lot of sense on any level.
But it does show that
a) Elliott will be out for an indefinite period, and
b) the idea of Allen as full-time starter in the interim was not giving Blues management a warm-fuzzy.
I think they took advantage of the fact that Brodeur is chasing 700 to (hopefully) land a better back-up for the interim than they could bring up.
RETIRED
According to all the Brodeur haters, Brodeur is only the GOAT because he played behind such an amazing Cup-winning system (even years after Stevens, Niedermayer, Rafalski, and Daneyko retired/left). Well, since STL has a pretty nice system going on here that can make any goaltender look like a Vezina-candidate, Brodeur should have no issues posting godly numbers. Unless you're name is Ryan Miller and you like to shit the bed .
There's a reason his contract is loaded with bonuses like "$10k/win."
Incentives to give a little boost in the short-run.
Savvy signing by the Blues if you ask me.
Tenured goaltenders like Brodeur can still read plays pretty well and reposition, it's just that it takes so much more time now compared to before since his reflexes have dulled with time.
Being positionally sound is an experience-thing - the reason why older goalkeepers (like Tim Thomas in the Bruins SC win) can thrive is because they're smart and have solid fundamentals.
They've also been in variations of the same situations so many times that their body just adjusts naturally.
For a team that doesn't let a lot of shots happen on net / limits high-quality scoring opportunities (ex. right in front of the net / unguarded slapper from the slot is where you would need awesome reflexes to make the save), someone like Brodeur is probably a better fit than someone younger and athletic, but less technically-sound, like Varlamov or Holtby.
