    Default Damon Severson

    Hello all,

This pertains to the team in my sig.

I want to drop Bieksa to get Damon Severson. What are your thoughts about it?
In a 10 league where we start 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4D and 2 G daily. It is a H2H league - we keep 3 players (1 G max), are allowed a max of 2 keeps for each player. The number in brackets is the number of keeps I have left:

G, A, +/-, PIMs, PPG, PPA and Shots.
C - Larkin, Couturier, Kopitar, Cirelli
LW - OV, Panarin (1), Schenn (C), Ehlers (RW), Kreider
RW - Kucherov (0), Seguin (C), Palmieri, Voracek, Yamamoto
    D - Yandle, DeAngelo

    W, GAA, SV% and Saves.
G - Rask, Varlamov, Hart, Mrazek
    IR+ - Tarasenko

If you're keeping 3 then I don't treat it like a keeper, since the 3 best on each team are pretty much interchangeable. So from a one year standpoint and including PIM, then these two are probably about equal. In a keeper league, Severson would be the no brainer for sure. But in this league, I'm not sure I make the move unless I have loosey-goosey transaction rules/limits

That's fair. Severson would never be a keeper in our league. There are only 3 - 4 defense keepers and they are the absolute best defensemen in the league and even then I wouldn't keep anyone but Karlsson and maybe Subban.

We are allowed 6 transactions per week and there is no charge to do them. So I could easily pick up Severson and drop Bieksa without it "costing" me anything unless Bieksa has a much better season than Severson.

If there is no restrictions on yearly transactions, looking at your roster, you can gamble on Severnson as there is some better upside than Bieksa.
If he cools down then there will be others to replace him.

With these rules by all means throw some darts at the wall to find potential gems. But when you find a guy that contribute don't abandon him too quickly. The goal is to get max production from that roster spot.

Eh I would rather have Bieksa for his PIM, and he has shown the ability off and on to hit 40 points. I don't think he gets there this season, but he's already gotten some decent PP time this year.

You need PIM more than scoring right now, you're very light in that cat. And getting those PIM from your 4th d-man is a great place to get it from.

Getting increasingly harder to write off Severson as just a hot start.

    5 shots last night, 1 g 1 a tonight after 2 periods.

I would drop Bieksa, despite Bieksa's hit and PIM potential. Severson right now is performing like a top 5 D and doesn't show signs of slowing down. The opportunity he's got is great too - the top pairing on a NJ team that has shown a shocking propensity to fire pucks from the blueline this year.

I would have considered dropping Lupul instead of Bieska.. Your league starts 4 d-men, so wouldn't hurt to have 5 on the roster..
