I like Lehtonen here. Niemi would be a close 2nd but I prefer Lehtonen. He could very well turn into your keeper for next year too!
Hey all,
I have the first pick in a 16-team keeper league where we keeper 8 skaters and 1 goalie. I'm strong with skaters but my keeper goalie was Halak, and because only 16 keepers were kept there's a lot of goalies out there and not a ton of skaters (often the first round is mostly goalies with a smattering of top prospects/guys who weren't kept).
With the first overall pick I have the option of a veteran: Niemi or Lehtonen, or I could take John Gibson.
Thoughts?
I like Lehtonen here. Niemi would be a close 2nd but I prefer Lehtonen. He could very well turn into your keeper for next year too!

Lehtonen is a safe bet, and a sure thing for this year - and you can always trade him midseason if you don't like him. Niemi's value may actually drop as the year goes on.
The Best Fantasy Hockey Site
15-Team Keeper, points only, best 12 fwd, 4 dman, 2 G count. Playoffs count.
F - T. Thompson, Thomas, Nylander, Tarasenko, Arvidsson, Guentzel, Fiala, Quinn, Mittelstadt, Hagel, Zacha, Roslovic, Berggren, Brink, Ostlund
G - Kahkonen, Vejmelka, L. Thompson, Levi, Comrie
D - Hronek, Morrissey, Lundkvist, Girard, Brannstrom, Rathbone, Hanifin, Severson, Durzi
What are the league settings? Might be better to take the best skater available over a goalie. Maybe not, but knowing the settings and the best skaters out there would be helpful.
If you're looking at a goalie for one year, I agree Lehtonen is the pick out of the bunch.
Lehtonen would be my pick

Best skaters would be Gaborik or Hornqvist. I don't have a third round pick so I'm worried if I draft a skater I'm going to be badly shorthanded in goal if I wait to pick 17. Last year 14 of 16 first round picks were goalies. (I think that's nuts but it tends to be how it goes... for the record I drafted MacKinnon with the 15th pick (!) last year... so skaters tend to last.
Lehtonen would be my pick. It might turn out in short order that Gibson would have been the better pick, but that's a huge gamble, and not really one I'd be willing to make.
