So did you have a hunch that it was Gilbert to begin with, or did you just fiure out the approximate years, based on things like colour TV and the fact the players arent; wearing helmets, and try and track him down that way?

No - I don't know Gilbert by face recognition.
I think the only ol Flyers & Bruins I could recognize would be Parent, Clarke, Cheevers (by mask! LOL), Esposito...
I was born in '77 and started following hockey in about '85.
My family lineage (parents, grandparents) are not sports fans at ALL.
I'm a self-made sports fanatic who got into hockey (and the other four major sports, soccer included) by myself.
But, unfortunately, this means I had no tutelage (word?) into the olden days of hockey.
But my pattern recognition skills are high, so I can put puzzles together fast.
