Edit:
http://spectorshockey.net/blog/lightning-re-sign-palat/
SPECTOR’S NOTE: No great surprise here. Palat, 23, is coming off an entry-level deal and is nominated (along with teammate Tyler Johnson) for the Calder Trophy as the NHL rookie of the year. Johnson also recently re-signed a three-year extension worth $3.33 million annually. I can see Palat earning a similar salary. Palat finished second in rookie scoring and in Lightning scoring with 59 points.
**UPDATE** TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reports Palat’s new contract is indeed similar to Johnston’s three-year, $10 million deal. LeBrun tweets it will “break down as $2.8 M, $3.2 M and $4 M per year.” The average cap hit will remain $3.33 million.

That's pretty solid value for both sides. Nice for Palat based off of one year, not too expensive for the team.
Can I just say Spector blows though. The guy posts some of the most pointless posts ever on his blog. He basically just says "payer won't move, salary, unless they do" rinse, repeat.

Makes for more bad news for Connelly. I think Tampa will be trading Connelly's rights and saying goodbye this summer lol.

yeah, this is bad news for brett connolly. i dont think yzerman will just dump him but hes decent sweetener for a bigger deal. we'll see i guess, the numbers game really sucks sometimes
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
This probably clears up questions of Tampa's depth chart now.
Stamkos, Filppula, Johnson, Palat are probably locks
Then Drouin probably has a spot that is his to lose
That leaves one spot for Kucherov, Purcell, Killorn, Panik, or if they resign Callahan. Add in Namestnikov. Other than because they traded St. Louis for him, is there any reason for Tampa to resign Callahan? I think they would be better off without. Also think they might keep Stamkos at wing.
Solid signing for TB, going to be interesting to see how things play out in Tampa Bay the next 3 years. lots of good young talent, they will probably trade for some D help.

As all of these spots in TB's lineup are being locked down long-term I'm interested to see what happens with the rest of the prospect group. There are more talented players than spots available. Something will have to give.

Yeah, this really intrigues me too.
Palat is one of my possible final keepers...and I'm just torn trying to figure out where he, Johnson, Filppula, Drouin, Kucherov, etc, etc, etc, fit into the grand scheme of things.
If you're Stevie Y, it's a really nice problem to have.

When you say all the names at once, you have to envy the situation down in TB. They have a lot of young players that are actually good and a fair few that are projected to be good as well. I'm one that believes that competition for spots is very important. They are looking sweet in that regard.
In regards to Callahan, he could be the perfect guy to show the young kids how to work. He's a real lunch pail player and would be an excellent example for the young 'uns. I'd be thinking they would want to sign him to a two year deal at around the same cap hit as his last deal. 4.5 range. Thing is, the cap is going up and he is a UFA. I dont see how they would make it work. Maybe Callahan likes the beach?
Well deserved, good contract for both sides. Cheers.
