Oh Snap....
they didn't waste any time did they ?
Have to say that I was surprised at how many bench minors were called versus NY
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
Well - we've probably already done enough of our own how/why discussion in other threads.
Since we all love fantasy hockey, it's interesting that:
THIS move (PIT Coach/GM dismissal) might be the most MASSIVE impact to PIT & other fantasy hockey player values that we've seen in the last 10 years.
Agree/disagree?
1. PIT needs to find a new GM.
New GMs always, always, always put their stamp on their team... quickly.
The first move is obvious - find a new coach.
2. PIT needs a new coach.
Is the new coach offensive minded?
Defensive minded?
How could this impact player scoring?
3. GM starts to put "his stamp" on the team.
I think the ONLY player safe on Pittsburgh is Crosby. No chance he's going anywhere.
Everybody else is a possibility.
Just look at a guy like Dale Tallon, in 5 years he has turned over almost EVERY piece of Florida.
So the questions are:
*Who are the most likely Penguins to get traded away? Value up or down? (most likely DOWN, to most other clubs)
*Who are some likely players to be brought IN to Pittsburgh?
This is major, major stuff here for fantasy hockey keepers, obviously/especially PIT players!!!
If you own MA Fleury? How worried are you on a scale of 1-10? I'd say I'm worried a LOT... a 8.
If you own Letang? How worried are you on a scale of 1-10? I'd say a moderate amount... a 5.
If you own Malkin? How worried are you on a scale of 1-10? I'd say I'm worried a LITTLE... a 4.
If you own James Neal? How worried are you on a scale of 1-10? I'd say a tiny bit, good contract... a 2.
Crosby... he's safe though, right?
Yikes! As I said in another thread, firing Shero is a mistake but maybe it's just time for a change. Both of them will find jobs quickly.
Pens owner wants Pat Brisson to be GM according to McKenzie
I think Malkin is safe. Any trade involving Crosby or Malkin is a trade the pens are losing.

Won't Jacques Martin take over now as bench boss??
According to Elliote Friedman, your worries on Neal should be closer to an 8 than a 2. Don't know how that changes with a GM change.
How about Ryan Kesler (VAN)?
Is that a possibility - first big player move brought in to PIT?
I've always though Malkin was a bit of a liability at center.
His +/- numbers haven't astounded me over the years and his FOW% is low.
Kesler in that C2 spot sure would be a nice fit, IMO.
Not sure what they'd have to give up though.
If PIT can simply sign a solid goalie, would they move MA Fleury to VAN for Kesler?

Yikes!
Biggest possible hit in all of fantasy hockey?
James Neal is a 70pt player on PIT.
What is he on another team?
60pts?
55pts?
Good points
MAF is pretty much turning into a pumpkin next season anyway. With a NMC I think he plays out the season next year and gets dealt somewhere at the deadline to a team he wants to go to. Moving chance is a 10
Letang has health issues so I am not sure if he is marketable or perhaps with a discount so I think Pittsburgh is left keeping him due to a poor return and he shines for them. I give it a 3
Malkin always seemed to be a bit of a spoiled man child to me as an outsider fan. When he is on, he is superman but is somewhat easy to get "off" his game where he quickly ends up taking minor penalties and hurting the team. If they can a good return and Gino wants to go I think he is the odd man out. I give it a 5 depending on who steps up to the plate with which offer and if Gino wants to go due to him NTC.
Neal was not effective versus NY and seemed out of position, overly physical when the penguins needed his offense. His limited NMC means the chances to move him are less likely due to Gino fetching a much greater return.
Pittsburgh needs to address their merry go round strategy on defense. Letang and Scuderi (who I am not impressed with) make up 2 of the top 4. Maata has the tools but I think its a bit much giving him such huge minutes at 19 years old when he can flourish on the 3rd pairing with ton of PP time. So from where I sit that's 2 holes when Martin departs.

REP.
That's a good note.
I don't usually expand my knowledge of "contracts" to try to remember who has a NMC and who doesn't... but for sake of "fantasy hockey", it's something we should take note of.
I own MAF in one keeper league and next year might have to be the year I trade him!
That's valuable info man!!! Thank you!!!
And mercy, has anybody looked at PIT's roster/cap situation for next season.

Talk about stripped down.
They've actually only have 7F/5D/2G under contract.
They'll need another 7F/2D to get to the standard carrying roster of 14F/7D/2G.
Perhaps just finding plugs for the roster will keep the new GM from entertaining massive trades.
Fleury has a limited NTC so he could be traded to some teams.
Thought I read somewhere that Malkin has implied that Pittsburgh and Russia are the only places he's playing for.
I wish I could remember where I saw that. Maybe I'm making it up, but I don't think so.
Kesler to Pitt would be great for Kesler, but I'm not sure the Nucks would get what they'd want from Pitt.
Pitt has some good D prospects, but I think the Canucks would need a roster player as well (and a 1st) -- at least that was the demand earlier, and if anything the urgency should've settled a bit on dealing him (not sure how he's feeling after GM and Coach getting canned).
I suppose Sutter is an option.
I would love the Canucks to chase Bylsma. How long until he gets hired?
