i may not know a whole bunch, but I'm of the opinion that Stamkos linemates accelerated production were a product of playing with Stammer, not the other way around. Players of his ilk make everyone around him better.

For me it will depend on a lot on how guys like Drouin and Kucherov develop. There is a ton of talent in Tampa (albeit none like MSL) so there is a chance that he is surrounded by strong playmakers again in the near future. I prefer Malkin in most formats
I once traded Henrik Lundqvist and Ilya Kovalchuk in return for Peter Budaj and Henrik Zetterberg… have lived in shame ever since.

No point getting back into the Malkin-Stamkos debate. Everyone is pretty polarized on it and won't change their mind or admit it's close. I think the one thing though that makes Stamkos so valuable that no one seems to realize is that he hits. Year over year his hits have increased, from 0.75 hits/game to 1 hit per game, to 1.25 hits, to 1.4, to nearly 2.0 hits per game this year! That is huge value to have a top scorer in the NHL who also makes 2 hits per game.
So from what I'm gathering, OP isn't saying Stamkos was a product of MSL, he's just saying his top end upside is lower without him than with him. Not sure I really see an issue with saying that. While it's not like you can point to stats to back up the idea, it's a logical theory. Yes, even with Stamkos' 60 goal, 97 point season.
Having another player as dangerous as MSL on your team just gives you more options, especially if that player plays on your line. It gives you more space, as defenders can't just focus on only one player. They need to focus on both. So it sets Stamkos up for opportunities he wouldn't have without MSL.
He's going to need to adjust. I don't think his upside is now in the 100 points level. I'd bet its more like 95 points. MSL will change things, it's just logical. Stamkos will learn to play without him though, no doubt. He's a generational talent. But it's going to take a small hit out of his upside.

Shame Stamkos can't play without St. Louis. I wonder who has scored more points since Stammer has been back - him, Malkin or St. Louis?

I think there has been windows in which Justin Williams has had more points than Malkin or St. Louis too, doesn't mean Williams is better or Stamkos isn't impacted by the loss of St. Louis.
Stamkos should still flirt with 90 points with no Marty. But I don't see him as a 95 or 100-point player. And this would happen even if St.Louis stayed - because St. Louis is winding down.

That is like the worst rebuttal haha. I was talking over the long term, a hot streak means nothing to me. At one point Sven Baertschi was looking like a PPG rookie. Steen was playing way over his head, Cheechoo was a star for a season. Cool. A small sample means nothing, not to mention he scored a hat-trick on a struggling Reimer, against a team who gives up far too many shots. No doubt a generational talent, but his upside obviously has taken a slight hit, and he is not a 100 point player like Malkin or Crosby or Ovi (although he may not hit it again). 90ish point player is still fine. But don't go thinking his spurt of goals coming back from an injury is an indication of his PPG going forward. Malkin's hot streak could be cherry picked and used against you. But it doesn't work that way.

Any of you haters want to take a bet on Stammer's point production over the next 82 games regular season games, starting next season? I'll set it to 99.5 and take the over. Put your money where your mouths are.

If this weren't an unprovable proposition (which it is), we'd still have to account for the postulate that a pure goal scorer's production naturally diminishes at a significantly quicker rate than that of a passer or set-up man.

Stamkos will be just fine.
I've been telling anyone who would listen that Stamkos played almost half a season without MSL on his line a couple of years ago and he was playing above PPG the entire time with scrubs like Malone, Purcell, etc.
