Ovechkin doesn't have an even strength point since the break. That may have something to do with it.
Are there any capitals fans here that can explain to me why Oates keeps splitting up Ovie and Backstrom? Ovie will go 1 game without a goal, and Oates splits the two up, Ovie gets a goal on the PP (with backstrom) and he keeps the two separate. Then when the PP doesn’t do anything, he puts them together on 5 on 5 and BAM, Backstrom gets like 3 apples and Ovie gets 3 points.
Is Oates trying to get 2 good lines of talent? Or is he just ignorant of how well powerhouse lines have worked this yr. (Okposo – Tavares – Moulson Kessel – Bozy – JVR Kunitz – Crosby – Anyone Else Voracek – Giroux – Hartnell Benn – Seguin – Nichiskin). Does Ovi and Beagle play better together? Is this a switch just so Kuzy plays with a strong center and isn’t top line? As a Backstrom and Kuzy owner, I want to see a powerhouse line in Washington.

Seems like several different coaches have had the same problems, so maybe it's not just Oates.... also wondering, is Johansson a total bust or what? Anyone still holding out hope for a breakout? Even as Ovechkin's linemate he doesn't seem to score much. I feel like the Caps may need to blow it all up.

I wouldnt say Johansson is a bust, 39 points is pretty good. But theyre all assists. I think he's been bread into a Backstrom 2.0 if you will. With Kuzy technically a playmaker, i feel like they have too many playmakers to scorers ratio. They should flip Johansson for 2nd tier scorer, have the lines something like:
Ovi - Backstrom - Kuzy
Brower - Beagle - Johansson replacement

Good point.... I guess i was hoping he'd become like Washington's chris kunitz, collecting a bunch of assists with ovechkin and/or backstrom... maybe he's more like a pascal dupuis though.

Oates isn't the problem. It's Ovechkin.

I suppose Oates is just trying to see if Ovi and Backstrom can run their own lines since WAS lacks the depth to be dangerous with those two on the 1st line and a bunch of 3rd liners everywhere else.

I suppose he’s trying to create depth on a team that has none really, but it seems like every coach has done this in Washington. That whole team confuses me anyways. They have 4 D who are all top 4 D, but none are top 2. Their top line center right now is paid like 4mill less than their 2nd line center. Ovi got less ice than Chimera, Fehr, Ward, and Brower yesterday. And their powerplay plan is so simple but always works. Umbrella set-up, Backstrom at the half wall, either go down low then one touch pass to Brower/Ward in the slot. Or Backstrom to Green up top then to Ovi for the one-timer. But it literally ALWAYS works.
Sorry for the rant
