Claritin is something that people take for migraines as well. I'm not so naive as to think no NHL players are on steroids, but this particular issue seems pretty benign.
Yeah, this is just some nonsense; I blame the team officials, they really should have been all over this when Backstrom was experiencing migraines. Unless he didn't share this information with the team doctors and the like until after taking the medication. Just a bad situation all around, and I bet Nicklas' grandmother is laughing hysterically, seems like a mean old crow ...

Canada had a rower disqualified several years ago for taking the wrong kind of Nyquil or something. In that case I think the team doctor actually gave her the wrong advice (someone correct me if I am wrong). It happens, but it shouldn't.

I don't really care if hockey players dope since you can't get skill from a bottle.
Its not about getting skill from a bottle, its about extending your career.
HGH doesnt pack on a ton of muscle, but adds quality muscle. More importantly it helps in keeping your body fat down and also helps with cardio. It also helps heal and basically turn back the clock, which is exactly what NHL players would want so they can play the extra 2-3 years.
Most people associate PED's with Barry Bonds when thinking about PED's. But he was doing alot more than just HGH, probably cycling in several other steriods in over the years. HGH basically is like a supercharger to other steroids when they are added, which is how Bonds gained massive size and strength in addition to extending his career.
Interestingly enough, I read that if 2 players on the same team test positive for banned substances in this format, it disqualifies the team. How crazy would that be, if somembody else on the team tests positive for something, and the Swedes were disqualified?
He probably had his medication accidentally mixed up with Ovie's...
According to the Swedish team doctor, Backstrom has been taking 1 allegy pill per day for years, including during the Vancouver Olympics. And the substance in this allergy pill is not a banned substance by NHL standards. To not let Backstrom play in this game just shows that the anti-doping crowd has run completly amok.
Oh I see. It's a joke when it's convenient for it to be a joke, but otherwise you were dead serious. Cool.
