Why not Calgary?? They will need a captain..
Now that Pittsburgh is REALLY tight on cash with the new Malkin and Letang contracts.......I don't see there being a way to sign Iginla, unless he works for VERY cheap.
Who has an opinion as to where he goes? What kind of deal?
I can eliminate from the equation...
Pittsburgh.
Boston.
Calgary.
Retirement.
Much past that.....I'm pretty stumped.

Angus is my best friend at dobberhockey..
He could sign pretty much anywhere. He could demand a promise to get traded to a playoff team at the deadline no matter where he signs initially, if the team he signed for didn't make the playoffs that is. Very much like Jagr with Dallas.
Could see Colorado doing everything they possibly can to land him for example.
I think odds are he's going to be looking for a multi-year deal with a team that a rising team that has a window to win a cup. I'm sure other factors will be considered as well and it's too late in the night for me to look into what those factors may be.
I'd say he's going to look for a 3-4 year deal for at least $4.5M per. Just wild speculation on my end. I mean hey, Gonchar just got 2 years $10M from Dallas and he's 3 years older than Iginla lol.
Not sure of their cap situation, but he would look good in NYI on Tavares' or Strome's wing, bringing needed leadership while joining a team that should be something to see.

Two of the first places I can see him looking are Ottawa and with the NYI. He could also probably fit with STL, Nashville, Colorado, and Dallas.

If the Sharks don't sign a legitimate RW, their top-line RW will be Brent Burns -- a defenseman. I can't think of another team as desperate for a RW. Capgeek has SJS at $3.57mil cap space, on top of which they have $5mil from Havlat's contract to spend for as long as he's injured. When Havlat comes off the LTIR they'll buy him out immediately, so he won't ever count against the books.
You heard it here first.

Unlimited (24+y/o) off-season UFAs after the entry draft.
The Show:

The Farm:

He sure would fit in nicely with Big Joe, but unless Havlat has miraculously healed by this Thursday on the eve of free agency he can't be bought out until next offseason. With that in consideration the cap space just won't be there for the Sharks to acquire Iggy.
Besides, Burns seemed to transition into his role on the RW quite well.

Yea I can't see how you can knock on Burns. He was drafted as a forward and transitioned to D and has now been transitioned back to forward, and he played very very well. Iggy might sign a 1 year in Pitts (remember, the Malkin and Letang extensions don't kick in until next year) or else I think he will sign somewhere else in this East. I'm sure he doesn't have a huge allegiance to Calgary, but I also don't think he would be particularly fond of playing against them.
Detroit might be a fit. They have a win-now team with Datsyuk and Zetter not getting any younger, a history of old players extending their career by going there, familiarity with playing against them for so many years, and not having to play against Calgary anymore (as much) now that they are in the East.
LA would make a lot of sense - reunion with Sutter?

Colorado too - Iggy and Sakic are tight and they just picked up his buddy Tanguay.
Islanders is a good one.
I really don't know why, but the team that comes to mind for me is the Blue Jackets.
Sure they have the cap space. As long as Havlat is on the LTIR, he doesn't count towards the cap -- it's the same thing with Pronger. Look up Philly on capgeek.com if you don't believe me; they're listed as being over the cap, although Pronger doesn't actually count against it since he's on the LTIR.Shoeless

Remember, teams don't have to meet the cap ceiling/floor during the offseason.
