Spezza May Not Return This Season: from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Senators GM Bryan Murray told CTV... http://dlvr.it/38bTQ6
Back surgery is not a predictable thing, like coming back from a broken bone or MCL knee injury. Those injuries are always around 6 weeks, even for regular people.
People can have a lot of lingering issues, anytime it involves nerve irritation/compression from a herniated disk. Can't recall if this is his 2nd back surgery (know he had back problems past seasons) but not surprised at the changing return times. More likely to have chronic pain issues from spine surgery than other orthopedic surgeries.
Semi-retired

ah snap...so much for my secret weapon down the stretch. i'm in for a tight race now.
i'm still going to leave him on my IR but with ottawa likely to make the playoffs, no reason for sens to rush him. if's he's ready, maybe a 2-3 game tune up for the playoffs. nothing fantasy worthy.
He's practicing with the team as of today.

The PP will improve, other than that, gotta wonder about his game shape.
A 40% Spezza would help the team on face-offs and PP. And he is actually healthy though. Gonna provide a huge spark and can't wait to see how COnacher plays with him.
Well a 40% Karlsson was smoked by Crosby just before he scored a very important goal. It can always turn either way, but being 2 games behind is pretty much a situation to take some risks.
In a few hours we will know, anyway good to see the best players on the ice in the play-offs.
Spezza is a lot more healthy than Karlsson, since he has taken a long time to come back from his injury (longer than expected).
A difference is his injury was in his upper-body. Karlsson's (who is more than 40%) injury was his leg, which affects skating, specifically turns, which is why he is being overtaken on the right side by most players right now. Spezza plays a cerebral game ala a Joe Thornton so he will always look slower than everybody else anyway. I think even if he is slower than other players and his injury is affecting him, it won't be noticeable.
Spez deserves credit for his overall game last night, but it was Anderson who stole it for them.
