This is an experiment in providing context for selecting an FA.
So i'm going to show you where i stand in the various categories of my league, along with my team and watch-list sorted by average rank.
Check out this combined screenshot and tell me what to do.
Hint: RW and SOG are primary concerns and Backes is the likely drop. The manager second to me in Assists is way over budget in terms of games played.

Firstly, I like how you've set up your question - very creative way of elucidating how your league runs and where your position is in it without too many words.
Ryder is getting good chances on Montreal. I like him. I would sub for Simmonds. Voracek's basically absorbed his role now on the 1st line now that he's proven he can play. Simmonds plays solely with Briere now, no more G-man time. He's good for PIM, but it doesn't seem like too big of a deal.
I think Vrbata will do well once he comes back.
Your goalies are really strong. I'd stick with what you have there. Maybe Bernier for Emery goalie sub switch-up if Chicago continues to spiral downwards, but I doubt they will. You have enough good starting goalies without needing Ellis.
Hamilton and Bogo get a lot of SOG.
I like either of them over Souray. I'd probably lean Bogo as long as Enstrom is injured.

thank you. it also shows most of the relevant stats so hopefully there's less guesswork and research necessary in order to give *sound* advice instead of "this guy good, this guy bad" favoritism. that sort of thing is a recipe for losing.
I don't like Ryder's SOG, and SOG is what i need more than anything. With Hornqvist out, my instinct is to go with either Brouwer or Justin Williams. Ryder is the safer choice though and he is proving last year wasn't a fluke. He's the safe pick and given my position in the league, the safe pick is probably best.
Simmonds hardly ever scored 5v5 during his time with Giroux which is probably why he's been demoted. Simmonds gets his points almost exclusively 5v4, and he's still playing on PP1, so i'm not as concerned about his point production falling off a cliff.
Vrbata is probably who I'd bench, at least until it is clear he's fully recovered.
I disagree that my goaltending is strong, but i think you're correct that the available options aren't suitable replacements.
The injury info is very useful here. Souray is the bulwark of my +/- stat but i've built up a rather obscene lead there. I think my plan for Souray should be trade and replace but there is still half a season left. I think i will keep Souray another ten games and make a move then, replacing with Hamilton since Enstrom should be back by then.

My two cents - I like Brouwer, he gets decent SOG and the PPP never hurt.
But I would agree that Ryder may be the safer pick. Judging my Washington's last two games, things may turn south for them....

I feel like most of your team will stay the same or improve and at the rate you are going it is going to take alot to knock you out of 1st place. You would have to severely drop in several categories.
I wouldnt do anything outside of brouwer for backes as already suggested!
