Umm...
yeah...
No surprises here.
apparently it is season ending...
not sure if this is good news for poulin or not... probably means he starts as nabby's back-up when things get rolling again. with nilsson injured, it was nice to see poulin carry the entire load for bridgeport to start the season... i kind of thought the best thing for all three of the islander's young goalies would be to be number ones somewhere for this season and see a lot of action... then again, with nabby starting on long island, that could still come true.
Its way beyond a joke at this point....one almost could believe he does it on purpose and/or the team tells him to do it so they can get their other G time in the net, just ridiculous

If it wasn't for his ridiculous contract, I would bet my left nut that this guy would already be retired because of all the injuries he suffered, but the money he's due with that contract will mean he is going to stick for a while.

From now on I demand that we only have threads on him if he's actually healthy.
Interesting Dipietro stat of the day:
In the past 4 NHL seasons Dipietro's contract has cost $1.285 mil per regular season win for the Islanders.
$18mil in contract, 14 wins. That's not bad for an NFL quarterback I guess.

*If* Dipietro could ever stay healthy, there is no way he'd even be able to compete anymore. He has essentially not played hockey since the 2007-2008 season. Not playing hockey for that long, especially a goalie, must lead to a serious deterioration of skills.

If it's season ending, then I would assume the Islanders are off the hook for paying him this season if the NHL starts up. Looks like he is making use of what is probably a costly insurance plan as well.
It's just too bad about DiPietro....he was becoming a really good goalie until this injury stuff started happening. And it's just been non-stop ever since. It's tough to see him mentioned as a huge draft bust when he's actually a good player, just totally unlucky.

It's said to be just a minor groin issue, if he is hurt at all. His team hardly hits the net and likes to dress one more foreign forward, leaving DP in the press box. His "backup" is playing well, Rick let in a few softies in his two games, leaving him on the outside looking in ever since.

UPDATE: VIA ESPN & Victoria Matiash
Contrary to reports out of Germany, goaltender Rick DiPietro appears to be in decent health.
According to the New York Post, DiPietro denied -- "not true at all" -- a recent report in the Munchner Merkur newspaper that he had suffered a groin injury while competing for SC Riessersee of Germany's second division.
"I'm feeling good," the New York Islanders netminder texted, "and I'm looking forward to the next game."
