Definitely - a salary rollback will be a part of the new CBA whether players want it or not. I'm sure it gets worked out with some tax magic as well so they don't lose as much money as if they were losing the actual 10-25% of salary.

I do not understand how teams like the Flyers are supposed to ger down to a 58 million cap.
Does that mean players on teams over the cap, give up money. While players on teams under the cap, can keep all their cash.
There should be a luxury tax like MLB has. If the big spenders want to overspend they should be able too as long as the other teams get a kick back and the players continue to earn what the market dictates. That's the most practical compromise and win-win-win scenario IMO.

Way too many people hate the MLB model as it creates big and small market teams that are not as nearly as competitive as they could be. You get the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Giants doing a lot of spending whereas teams like PHX (again) not spending as much and generally don't perform as well because of it.

Yeah you just get teams that zero intention of actually putting a good product out there and instead just rake in the free money for the owners as it rolls in from the luxury tax giiants. Horrible system for the fan of anyone other than the big market teams.

If the do a luxury tax system it should be a 4 to 1 ratio. For every dollar you spend over the cap you spend 4 dollars to luxury tax.

There won't be any salary rollbacks. Fehr has said that those won't be happening under his watch and really with NHL producing record revenues each season there's no reason for players to agree to that after they already did that 7 years ago. That's as non-starter for NHLPA as removing the salary cap alltogether is for NHL.
Also I hope there won't be any luxury tax system either. I hate that idea.

Me too, man. I'm not a baseball fan but talking to a buddy who is, he states that the luxury tax "allows" teams to wile away in mediocrity because their owners are completely happy to make money that way. Instead of adding salary and looking to contend and in turn bringing in fans, they can simply make money off the other teams paying into the tax. What a way to ruin a league and ruin the true meaning of competition.

With the NHL revenues rising at the rate they are there is really no reason to roll back the Cap or the contracts. A luxury tax is what the two sides should be looking at. There will always be teams content to spend the minimum and suck the teat of revenue sharing. Regardless of the arguments against the MLB model, for every Flyers team, there will be an Islanders team just squeaking by.
The wealthy owners themselves will not want to share the earnings of their organizations hard work with a bunch of bottom feeders. At least in a luxury tax system the teams that are willing to spend are willingly putting funds into the revenue sharing pot because they are actually getting something out of it.
