Default Got the KID...but was it too much?

Hello everyone, I'm in a 28-team league multi-cat pts league with weekly H2H matches (but we have daily starts so depth is great).

I just paid a big price for Crosby but simply couldn't resist owning both Crosby and OV in a 28-team league...here was the deal:

My: Getzlaf, Byfuglien, Erat, Backstrom (MIN), and my 1st round prospect pick in 2013 (only 2013 draft elgibles)

I got: Crosby, Sykora and Bobrovsky

I know to properly answer you'll need to see my entire team so here it is (starters in brackets):

(Crosby, Ovechkin, M. Richards. Grabovski, Vermette, Hornqvist) Gagner, Sykora, Huselius, Stempniak

    (Goligoski, Pitkanen, Kuba, Blum) Pronger

    (Bobrovsky) Thomas

Prospects - Jeffrey, Calvert, Clingberg, Koekoek, Percy, Forbert, Krug, Montoya, Allan, Gibson (ANA)
    10-team Auction League, $160 team salary, weekly H2H, start: 6F, 4D, 1G and 5 Bench

    Scoring structure: (F : 1pt G / 1pt A / 0.15pts SOG / 0.15pts Hits / 0.15pts BlkS), (G : 5 pts W / 3 pts SO / 0.01 pts Saves)

    Forwards : Ovechkin ($43), Kessel ($20), Benn ($7), Spezza ($13), Brown ($7), Marchand ($13), Landeskog ($3), Elias ($1), Plekanec ($1),

    Defenses : Letang ($26), Visnovsky ($1), Bieksa ($1), Faulk ($2) Ehrhoff ($2)

    Goalies : Holtby ($7), Nabokov ($2)

    My First thoughts.....
    Yes.

Your Goalie situation is pretty dire. Backstrom could have helped out in that regard. With heavily weighted D scoring, Byfuglien was your best D.

It's nice to have Crosby and OV.
    Now you have to hope:
    1 - Crosby stays healthy.....and
2 - OV can be a point per game player again.

Your team is even more top heavy than it originally was, but in a 28 team league that can be hard to avoid.

I think you paid slightly below value for him, good trade for you (of course that hinges on SC's health). It does leave you with almost no G, but if Bobrovsky emerges as a starter, you are laughing.

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that trade confirmation. Personally, I think you robbed him blind on this one. Yeah you had to give up Getz and Buff to get a game breaker like Crosby but I don't think you will miss the old, injury prone Backstrom who's about to be pushed out of MIN if Bob becomes the starter in CLB. Look at it this way, you're in a 28 team league and you have both Crosby and Ovechkin. Good work.

I think you got confused because the cats in his signature are for a different league.

What are the scoring cats, kenzel1r?

I think you won this trade as well. Crosby was scoring at just under 1.7 points per game, which is sustainable, and could even improve. Also, in my opinion, Backstrom is more of a liability to get injured.

Shit, you're right, I did assume the league format mentioned in his sig. If they're very different than I renege my comment.

I might disagree with people about Crosby but I think you lost this trade (uless Bob becames a top goalie in CBJ). Main reason has already been brought up, next year you will only have Bobrovsky starting who is not yet a trustworthy goalie. Secondly Crosby has had injury problems 2 years in a row, Getzlaf is a buy low right now, I personally think he will bounce back next year. 3. Byfuglien is one of the best defencemen in the game, as a consitant 50 point D, which is rare. 4. Erat is better then those picks. 5. If your goalies don't perform then your probably not going to be a high standing team, which means that the pick might be quite valuable,

But again it all depends on two things, if crosby is back to crosby you win no doubt, if bobrovky finds a way to be a good starting goalie in CBJ then you might win, but I just think it is a lot of ifs for me.

I'm not too excited about this trade either...

In very deep leagues like this one (28 teams) depth is the key everyone will have their 1 or 2 superstars, and the way that the NHL is structured at the moment, the gap between the top forwards and the rest isn't too wide...

With this move you destroyed a lot of your depth. Instead of Buffy you now have to rely on Kuba and Blum... Instead of Getz and Erat you now have to rely on Crosby and Vermette/Hornqvist... And you're pinning a lot on Bob claiming the number 1 job in CLB...

There's also a bit of risk with Crosby's health as well. Another hit to the head and his career could be in jeopardy...

At the end of the day it's whatever you're happy with it then there's nothing wrong with what you paid... I just think it's a little too risky.

It was a risky trade but I like it. There are a lot of ifs in this deal with Crosby's health and Getzlafs return to PPG status etc. We wont know if you win this deal until after the season is over but like i said, I like it.

In almost every case where you get a Crosby, Malkin, OV, Stamkos, Giroux or Tavares without giving one, you win the trade.
