I think signing Lappy is good thing, shores up that 4th line center position that was a revolving door last year.

    I hope they resign higgings.
    Mixed about Torres.
    Ballard is gone.

Hope they make room room for Hodgeson.

From what I've gathered, Higgins is making it tough to re-sign him. Great third-line player, I don't want him to be my second-line guy, though. I also wouldn't pay him more than 1.5 or 2 at the most. I'd really like to re-sign Torres, he brings it every game and can score a couple goals here and there. The Lapierre signing has me curious about Hodgson. Either they're gonna try him on the wing somewhere, play him a full year in the AHL with a few call-ups, or he's as good as traded.

Torres definitely brings some sandpaper. I agree regarding Higgins.

What do you think the chances are of Tallon trading for Lou?

He has to spend 24 mill to hit the cap floor, Lou likes Florida. Long shot, but the only really team i think it could happen.

I doubt it will happen, but fun to speculate!!

Ya know, with Ehrhoff and his predicted 4 to 5 mil cap hit out the door I say Gillis pulls out a magician hat and ships out Samuelsson and his 2.5mil cap hit to clear space for a real winger for Kesler....

... I hear there's this Parise kid who's having issues with management...

    A fan can dream right?

Hey if the Philly fans are dreaming about Stamkos then why the hell not right?

Also, Alberts was just re-upped for 2 years. Bleh.

Alberts is fairly solid on a team that can utilize him as a 5th/6th guy.

Chris Higgins has re-signed at $1.9 mil per season, for two years

Samil Salo has re-signed at $2 mil for one more season.

Both solid signings, as long as Vancouver isn't counting on Higgins to play a second line role. He can fill in there, but he doesn't have second line scoring upside anymore. Very happy if he sticks on the third line. Also happy with the Salo signing. Both deals were good term and money for the type of players they are.

Default info on Mancari - signed by Gillis

f the Canucks have a grit problem, Mark Mancari wants to be part of the solution.

Mancari, a big (6-foot-4 and 225 pounds) right winger who's been a top AHL player for most of the six seasons he's been in the Buffalo Sabres organization, was signed on Friday as the NHL free agency window opened. He received a one-year, one-way deal for $525,000.

Mancari, a London, Ont., native, will compete for a job on the Canucks' fourth line and he's ready and willing to drop the gloves if necessary — although that hasn't been much in the AHL in recent years.

“Being up and down with Buffalo, I've played anywhere from fourth line to first line,” said Mancari. “I'm 6-4, 225, I'm a big guy and I'm not afraid to use my size. I'm not afraid to defend my teammates, but at the same time I feel I can bring an offensive game to the NHL.”

Mancari has played 36 career NHL games, including 20 last season — when he scored 1-7-8, was a minus-1 and had 12 PIMs. He dressed for one playoff game for the Sabres last season, recording no points and one shot on goal.

Does Phx sign or trade him?

Do the Canucks have a shot? Would have to make cap room no doubt.

Hey Ryan (and other Van fans)

Can you give me some insight into where Hamhuis and Sameulsson fit in next year?

Does Sammy keep his second line job? I expect he will get spot duty on the PP, too. Second line I see him as a 30-30 guy (assuming PP time). If he is bumped down to the third line and little PP, he is expendable and possibly a drop candidate.

With Erhoff gone, where does Hamhuis fit in on the PP? He is available on the wire, and maybe an interesting grab, but if he is buried behind Edler, Bieksa, Salo (until injured) and possibly Sammy, then I won't bother. Salo is on the wire too, but I've been there and done that before.

Really appreciate your insight on this one!!!

    Thanks

I could the defence looking something like this next year:

    Hamhuis Bieksa
    Salo Edler
    Ballard Tanev
    Rome/Alberts

I don't see Hamhuis getting much more than second pp duty, probably with Bieksa. I think you will see Edler/Salo/Sammy and maybe Ballard on first duty.

I think the forward lines will look something like this:

    Sedinx2 Burrows
    (Raymond)Sturm Kesler Sammy (Higgins)
    Hanson/Malholtra/Higgins (Hodgeson)
    Oreskevich/Lappy/unkown rotating gritty forward.

    Barring any further trades.
