    Default Quick going forward.

Do you guys feel it's necessary to grab Bernier as a safety net for Quick going the rest of the way this season? I'd hate to carry a 4th goalie and eat up a roster spot better suited for a forward. I'd be more inclined to think LA would ride Quick since they're on the bubble and he's been the man all season. But Bernier has started the last two games after Quick got yanked the other night. Quick gets the start today but beyond that how do you see things going?

I don't think its absolutely necessary, but I will say that I had Quick last year and he was lights out for most of the season until the last three months when he just seemed to pack it in...I would keep an eye on the situation and if you start seeing a late-season fall again then move on it.

He has been more rested this season and I think that had a lot to do with the big drop off last season...I'll keep an eye on it for now.

Sorry to jump in here but you're talking Quick and I had a question of my own. I didn't realize he tanked a bit last year. He has had a tough run the past week or two so I can see the speculation of a repeat. Until now I was thinking about making a bit of a "buy low" offer on him thinking he'll turn it around any day now but maybe not given his track record (albeit short). Would Bryz be a better option for the last month do either of you think?

I dont think you need Bernier. Quick won 9 of his last 11 starts before that awful game vs Detroit, a game where the LA coach ripped his entire lineup for being brutal. Detroit dominated all 60mins.
This isnt last season, Quick started nearly every single game last year and fatigue played a factor, he's been much more rested this season now that he has a reliable backup.

Quick is still the #1, Bernier started the next game because all season he's played every 3rd or 4th game. So with 18 games left Bernier will see another 5-6 starts, basically 1 start per week. Not really worth it when you already have 3 #1 goalies on their respective teams.

Just read today that LA will be employing a goalie tandem down the stretch with so many games with only 1 day in between. So it looks like I will be adding Bernier as a handcuff to Quick. That really sucks having to eat up a roster spot dor him. AARRRGGGGHH!

Where did you read this? I'm just curious because if it is pretty legit then I'm planning on trying to pawn off Vokoun for a forward upgrade and then pick Bernier up off waivers.

I read on Rotoworld, but it might be based on this story.

Sweet idea b0ndon. I'm in the same boat with Vokoun. I've busted myself upgrading my goalies with Lundqvist and Miller this past week, and yet I'm left with Vokoun who's great, but his team is going to kill me down the stretch. I've got no takers on a Vokoun-for-decent-other-goalie deal. This summer after he signs elsewhere would be a different story, but that doesn't help me now. Thanks, I'll check out the story.

I had Quick last year and drafted him this year. I've already had second thoughts about this, but I dropped Quick last week after the debacle against Detroit. As good a season as he has had overall, Quick actually hurt my goalie stats. Part of that is due to me alone for sitting him for 4 of his 6 shutouts, but his actual stats for me are not overwhelmingly good: 17 wins, 2.57 GAA, 0.903 SV%, and 2 SHO.

I think you made a terrible mistake just outright dropping Quick. If you were really that disappointed in him, i'm sure you could have got something of substance for him in a trade. Like it or not, Quick is a legit NHL starting goaltender. And after Berniers performance last night, I wouldn't be surprised if Quick starts the majority of the games to close out the season.

Yeah seems pretty crazy to drop a top 10-15 goalie. That Detroit game was rough but he also posted a 53save shutout in Detroit 2 months ago.

MURRAY: “Both goalies are good. Bernier had a shutout the other night. I think his game has really stepped up here, from the start of the year. With (games) every second day, coming through this month, very intense games and both goalies playing well like they are, it’s a great opportunity to use those guys on a rotation, right now, that’s going to get us through to the end, when I have to make a decision (as) to what we’re going to do.”

This month is a very compact schedule, Bernier should see some action. Tho this wont be the first time Murray's said Bernier will get more starts since he's playing well; only to have Quick start 7 out of the next 10 anyways.

I tried to trade him but was not able to get any takers. I agree that I shouldn't have dropped him but I should be ok the rest of the way with Thomas and Crawford.

Edit: To my defense, I was traveling on business alone in a hotel room and disgusted after watching Quick unravel in front of my eyes.
