Is Green any good at actually playing D? We need someone fully responsible in their own end... Do we need another puck moving Dman?

He's been a lot better the last couple of yrs at being less of a gambler when playing defense. He's still offensive, but he's not cheating anywhere as near as his 70pt days.

Leafs have been linked to Hjalmarsson... I'd rather go that route.

Boston, Tampa and the Leafs are likely looking for a top 4/another defenseman.

If you're the leafs, do you up your price you're willing to spend to block a trade to your competitors or do you just stick with what you got?

This year, the leafs have internal ceilings on what they're willing to spend on player x, y, z. If it goes beyond that, I think they walk. they're been unwavering in their statements that they will not divert from the plan. I do not believe this year is considered an 'all in' year.

That said, I can't see them dealing any of their top prospects or 1st rounders. At least not for a rental. If we did move any big futures I can only see it being for a player they can control moving forward. It's more likely they make moves similar to last year.

Toronto has 2 2nd rounders to play with too I tend to forget about. And SJS would be around the 18-22 mark of the 2nd round, not bad.

Their D play last night was like watching pre-season.

I can't argue with their talent up front - it's as good as any team in the league. But forward talent has a way of getting shut down in the playoffs, especially on the road.
These guys better look in the mirror and soon.
you forget the solid game they just played vs. TB so quickly... this was 3 games in a row Columbus has put up 50+ SOG. It's more a Columbus O thing than a Toronto D thing I would say. Over the last month, the Leafs have been trending positively in the SF>SA direction.

Anyone using the Yahoo format that skips the final week of the season....the Leafs play 2 games in your Quarterfinal matchup week. Just so you're aware.

They have been outshot 5 of the last 6 games.

Not saying that Defence was better then what EG said or Columbus wasnt good but the shot total was definitely skewed. BJs are having scoring issues so Torts has got them playing a system that has them shooting from everywhere.

Id be curious in hearing the number of quality chances they got instead.

6 days till deadline day. Trade outline:
    Top UFAs for Leafs:
    Bozak, JvR, Komarov

    Top Trade Bait:
Liljegren, Dermott, AJ, Leivo, SJS 2nd rounder, Bracco, Aaltonen, Rosen, Borgman, Kapanen.

Lilly, Dermott, and Kap should be the “untouchables”. Bracco, AJ, Levio should be the “If traded, they win the trade” type of people. The rest are the “willing to trade” group.

Obviously the target is a defender, but looks like the Leafs will be going for more of a “5th-7th” type of d-man than a top 4. A cool creative deal could be something centralizing around Gardiner for Carlson. Gardiner has 1 more yr after this at 4.05mill, Carlson is at 3.97mill and is a UFA this off-season. The caps have like 15mill to be spent on 8 players for the 2018-19 season, so Carlson is 100% a free agent this offseason if he's on the Caps still. Could be interesting.

They should have about $17.5M if the cap goes up to $80M which is expected, although it could go up to $82M as well. Let's say they give Carlson $7.5M, so that still leaves them with $10M for the remaining 8 free agents who are all low-end players, so that's not bad. Wilson, Beagle, Chiasson, DSP, Kempny, Chorney, Bowey, Grubauer - these are not players who will break the bank. If they want too much, you move on without them. But you don't lose Carlson because of them.

And they should also buy out Orpik which gives them additional $3M in cap space. It's possible Carlson leaves Washington but I don't understand where you're getting your 100% certainty.

I don't see the leafs making a big deal at the deadline. Stand pat.
