Agree, it has to be a trade for D help... until they sign freaking Doughty in 2019!

    JvR didn't practice.

Marner-Bozak-Brown now the line, Leivo on the 4th. If it's a maintenance day for JvR, Leivo would typically be on that Bozak-Brown line during practice, instead of Marner moving up. Seems like JvR is likely to miss some games.

Was waiting for that news - thanks OG. Not surprised - looked like he pulled a groin to me, despite what the broadcasters were saying. Hopefully not a knee.

Here is Leivo's opportunity. Pulling for the Innisfil kid!

I've mentioned a while back that I expect Brown to fill that position if/when JVR leaves for FA.

I'll repeat that I think they are VERY similar players minus the huge difference being size. JVR is and plays a much bigger game.

JvRs hands in tight are far superior and give the "down low, side of the net" PP look more dangerous. But the overall game between JvR and Brown are pretty close.

What are the chances Leivo suits up tonight? I am wanting to call him up from my Minors for the week but only if there's a chance he continues to play this week. Any word?

I really hope Leivo doesn't get disengaged because of this.

Zaitsev looked lost on the Sharks 2nd goal.
Marner might get a different response from critics if he scored on that 2on1 with JvR. Two whacks at it and Jones stones him, especially that 2nd shot. I would like to see Marner play with Leivo, Leivo drives the net and has this wicked shot. If I remember correctly too (because consistent games with Leivo are rare) he plays a good 2way game, so maybe it helps Marner cheat one way. But that’s not Babcocks style…

Hahah. So appropriate. Articles on sportsnet in the pre-season were declaring the Leafs Stanley Cup contenders, etc. Don't forget to play the regular season first boys. I believe its a pretty good team and they'll turn things around to a certain extent but it will be a battle for them to make the playoffs.

And the "story" on sportsnet today is that Matthews is a Selke candidate. These guys sure know how to appeal to their market. I get it, but its so transparent and annoying for fans outside of the Toronto area.
