Yeah he's the future right now. And so far he seems to be doing everything right. Hope that progression continues and he doesn't hit the Jack Campbell wall.

    Lots of cuts.

Travis Dermott, Miro Aaltonen, Kasperi Kapanen and Nikita Soshnikov to Marlies.

Colin Greening, Vincent LoVerde, Chris Mueller, Kerby Rychel, Ben Smith and Garret Sparks were placed on waivers.

Andreas Borgman, Timothy Liljegren, Martin Marincin, Calle Rosen and Roman Polak still with the team.

Borgman/Rosen for the final D spot I would assume.

Surprised Liljegren made it this far.

Such high hopes for Kirby Rychel when he entered the league. I suspect he gets snapped up off waivers but either way, a future in the NHL is not looking great.

Also bummed Dermott wasn't able to pull through this year... totally selfish though as I've been sitting on him in a couple leagues.

I wonder how Leivo is used.

    My thoughts.

    1. Liljigren making it to the final cuts shouldn't be a huge surprise. Making the team was never a consideration, but seeing how far he dropped in the draft and all the scouts concerns on him coming in. Take every second to evaluate and determine what you have and ensure whether going to Sweden or Marlies is going to be the best for his development. I think he goes to Sweden myself.

    2. Polak's getting a contract. Pretty much guaranteed. I'd be really surprised if he doesn't

    3. Rosen's got the best shot out of Borgman, Rosen, Marincin for that final slot. If Marincin still has confidence issues, seeing these two Swedes walk in the door and outplay him ain't going to help.

    4. Wouldn't be surprised to see Rychel claimed off waivers.

    5. Dermott is waivers exempt. His future was set regardless of his performance this pre-season. Another year in the AHL (after missing 1/2 of last season) is likely best for his development

    6. Leivo is likely the 13th forward, maybe taking a few games from Martin? On Sat, he was the best Leaf on the ice and played his heart out. I think he earned his spot that game.

    7. I'd rather have Fehr over Moore. Like Marleau, he's a genuine good guy to have around the kids. Great role model. Filtering in veteran Character with so many players under 24 cannot be overstated. Although, both are likely to end up with the Marlies by Christmas.

    8. Kapanen deserves to be on this team. Victim of the waiver rule. He'll be the first winger called up. He can fill in on any line, in any role.

    9. It feels like Matt Martin is just stealing a kids spot right now. He's great for protection, hits, intangibles, but 4th line with Kapanen/Leivo or Brown on it would be fun to see. Talk about matchup hell for teams.

Agree with most of that though I don't see anyone touching Rychel.
Babcock also seemed to indicate both Swedes could start the season with Leafs. Thou if one stays I want Borgman. Tough cookie and seems to improve every game.
And how the mighty have fallen or sort of.....

Brandon Gormley cut from Marlies & Matt Hackett to Otlando.

Rychel I can see snatched off waivers.

Liljegren is going to the Marlies/Sweden, Lou said it. They just haven’t decided where yet. He’ll be a last second decision. He’s not going to be on the Leafs http://www.tsn.ca/lamoriello-liljegr...leafs-1.873148

Polak isn’t being offered a contract yet. He’s been invited to stay and practice with the Leafs, kinda like Ramo last yr.

So Marincin and I think Rosen are 6/7 D.

Mike Babcock joined TSN Overdrive on Monday evening, discussing a wide range of topics ahead of the new season, including:

    Expectations for the 2017-18 season
Frederik Andersen’s confidence to start the year
The decision to go with Moore and Fehr over Aaltonen to start the season
The ongoing battle for the final spot on defence
Jake Gardiner’s progression and the state of the blue line

If Polak is healthy, I cant see the Leafs not giving him a contract. They need a guy like him on the blue line and in their own end.

All Leafs players placed on waivers yesterday cleared, including Garret Sparks and Kerby Rychel. No one was waived today, and the Leafs have to make one cut by 5 p.m.

I'm surprised Lily is staying in NA. This is great news for his NHL development i think.

    GAME DAY

My guess is Fehr gets sent down after LTIR moves. Lupul is on LTIR right now (according to Cap Friendly), so Horton goes on it at 7:01pm i think.

And I'm fine with that depending how Marleau does. Everyone else is more than capable. No one does 3F-2D, so it's really only Gardiner/Rielly. Komarov is the only "hmmm" but he's net front, no one else really does that who isn't already logging high (for Babcock) minutes (Hyman/Brown) with some offensive upside.
