Interesting... Just stumbled on to this little tidbit.

" Dubas at one time was the golden boy of the Leafs front office, the 20-something whiz kid who was the first hire by new Leafs president Brendan Shanahan in 2014. Dubas was gaining something of a “Theo Epstein, Billy Beane” reputation as an analytics guru who would some day soon manage the Leafs front office.
But then, in July, 2015, Shanahan hired 72-year-old Lou Lamoriello to be the GM. In August of 2016, Mark Hunter was promoted from Leafs director of player personnel to assistant GM. Dubas retained his assistant GM title, but most of his duties were spent as GM of the Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. Lamoriello, the word is, was not overly impressed by Dubas and believes Hunter to be the far better candidate to succeed him when he retires (Lamoriello is 74 now). "

Dubas/Hunter - either or.. both will be committed to the Shannaplan - drafting & developing. Possibly Hunter even moreso than Dubas. I still suspect Dubas stays.

Very interesting although not surprising - this thought process has been around for a while and other players have said as much in the past.

It does make you wonder how many players think this way though... + or - 10%? Even more?! It would be impossible to truly quantify since I'm sure it's more of a spectrum for most people for how much it plays in their mind, but it sure would be great to get a sense of this. We need some anonymous polls going here!

I lived in Tor. for two years, while there was a lot of finger pointing and recognition, including Jays (Delgado, Halladay as well) the vast majority left them alone and let them have meals in peace and didn't approach very often. So yeah even toddlers will recognize you, but you aren't swarmed every time you walk downtown or go shopping either.

I'm a little surprised that Doughty can freely talk about another organization the way he did. Even if the NHL says nothing, surely the Kings would not like this?

If Babcock said to the press "you know, all Southern Ontario kids like Doughty secretly want to play here" Babs would be slapped with a tampering fine quicker than Cosby slipping someone Rohypnol.

Right or wrong, I don't think the league wants (under contract) players openly expressing their opinions on good or bad places to play.

Babs would love to land him some Doughty on his blueline. Mancrush if there ever was one.

Straight from a players mouth that players do think about playing for Toronto. Everyone raises their arms the second there's a rumour that a GTA born FA is going to Toronto. Well here's some proof they think about Toronto and playing for the Home Town. But the media drives them away. Now if Toronto becomes good and media dies down on scrutiny because they are winning, some guys can come to Toronto to play for the Leafs.

The Leafs brass is so tight-lipped since Shanny took over that I don't believe any rumours stemming out of Toronto.

No one has seen any of the moves they've pulled off coming.

The Kessel, Phaneuf, Anderson deals came out of left field.

Only KHL/Europe signings get leaked. Like Calle Rosen a couple months ago.

I don't think there's any doubt that they are trying to work out a situation with Vegas where they get a defenseman through this. The price is the only thing that will determine whether it happens and how much we actually hear about it.

Wouldn't it be something if - since TSN is reporting Ottawa has not been able to reach a deal with Vegas - they take Methot and flip him to Toronto? heh.. there are several options prefer more. but still it would make me giggle

it's funny... shortly after I posted this, the net is littered with trade talks, Tor-LBK for Methot. I'd rather Dumba. but Methot could let the kids grow with patience on the Marlies
