Washington isn't in super serious cap trouble yet, but once Carlson's contract is up and they eventually sign a legit starting goalie for big $$, who knows. Semin will likely be gone, but then you have Kuznetsov who might get a big contract at some point.

I have no idea for sure, but if the team keeps losing in the playoffs and Green is continually injured, they might decide to off-load that contract. But this all depends on how well Orlov does. No one should be giving up on Green yet, nor should they think Orlov is the savior the Caps have been looking for. The situation is merely interesting and worth monitoring.

One interesting thing is that when the Caps drafted him many thought it was a reach and that Orlov might never cross over to NA. Well, here he is across the pond even before his contract was up. Makes you wonder if Kuznetsov might not be over here sooner than later as well. It certainly makes you think that all those people who doubt that he might never come over don't know what they are talking about. The temptation for these young Russians to play with Ovechkin is stronger than people think.

good for them...might as well get him in and see what he can do...a lot of teams seem to be calling up some young players right now. Maybe a bit of an audition for the playoffs, maybe because roster spots will be opening via upcoming trades. I hope he actually gets into the lineup.

Apparently Orlov can't play for the Caps yet because he has not signed an NHL contract

oh right...that makes sense. I remember reading now that he was signed to a try-out contract or something like that? But I guess that means he can't actually play in an NHL game.

I suspect he will be officially signed soon though.

Visa issues prevented him from going on AHL trip to Toronto. But good for him to be on ice with NHL players.

2pts in 2GP for Orlov with the Bears.

Seems like Orlov signed his first NHL contract:

    Capitals: Dmitri Orlov (pick 55 2009) contrat: 11-12 550 000 (sb 90 000) 12-13 660 000 (sb 90 000) 13-14 650 000 (sb 90 000)

I think he has to make the team full time next year. And I think he might get in at least a few games this year.

Next year's defense looks a bit crowded to me though:

    Green
    Wideman
    Carlson
    Poti
    Schultz
    Alzner
    Orlov
    Hannon (likely not re-signed)
    Erskine (likely not re-signed)

he cant play in the NHL this year according to the quote from McPhee in the article, im assuming its because the contract was signed after the trade deadline but I could be wrong. As for next year I think he has a legit shot a making it as long as he plays well in camp. Erskine is definitely gone IMO, Hannan might be re-signed.

My understanding is he can't play in the Nhl this ye,because he started the year in Europe.

I believe his signing missed some cut-off date for playing in the NHL. I don't know when the date is but it might coincide with the trade deadline. I believe that he would have been allowed to start the year in Europe and play in the NHL that same year if he had only done it earlier. I remember when Mikael Backlund started in Sweden and then played a game for Calgary in January (before going to the WHL).

I think you're right but I don't know the exact deadline. Nabokov started the year in the KHL and then wanted to play a game with the Wings but...

Nabokov's situation was different because he was an Unrestricted Free Agent. Backlund and Orlov were unsigned draftees, so they were subject to different rules and would not have to clear waivers after signing their contracts.
