Default Can I say no to C.Giroux?

    The offer is
    My Gaborik, Whitney, Lidstrom
    His Giroux, Gonchar.
    Can't change or add anything.
    No counteroffer.
    Yes or no.
    I want Giroux badly.
    He knows it.
    Is this overpaying?
    I don't mind losing Whitney.
Lidstrom is a big loss over Gonchar, but for about 30 games only.
Won't keep any of those two.
I like better Giroux than Gaborik for this year and for a keeper spot.
I pay for the keeper here.
Downgrade from Lidstrom to Gonchar to upgrade from Gaborik to Giroux?
I'm in 2nd place, 3 points behind the 1st and 30 ahead of the 3rd.
Would be trading with the guy in 3rd.
    Team and settings in sig.

In a keeper league I think I would trade Gaborik to get Giroux, which is basically what this deal is since it's a keeper. It's really close, but I think selling hihg on Whitney is a great plan, and Gaborik is far too injury prone, not too mention the inconsistencies as of late, for me to want on my roster. WHitney and Lidstrom are both on their last legs... if this weren't a keeper I would say no way.

I think this is the last time you can get Giroux for a "decent" price, so I would pull the trigger. I too am a huge fan and am willing to overpay for the players I want. So, as long as you aren't in contention to win this year then I would make the trade.... you only lose out this year, IMO.

Hmmm... I missed the "i'm in 2nd" part, so as long as you are comfortable losing out the chance to win this year, then go for it. It is a big downgrade for this year. Who can you plunk in spot for WHitney?

The big problem here is that you're in contention! If you weren't in contention, I would say take it and run. Unfortunately, I think I would be inclined to decline the trade given that Lidstrom looks to finish with at least 3x as many pts as Gonch this year. Plus, you're giving up Gaborik, and even with all the injury problems throughout his career, he still has a higher upside than Giroux for the rest of the season (bigger downside too, I guess).

If you really want to win this year, don't do it
If you don't really care that much and want to get the better player in the long run, do it

In almost any other position I would say yes but I really think this trade compromises you chances to win (or even stay in 2nd for that matter) by doing this trade so I can't give it the thumbs up.

You're thoughts are justified though in that Giroux is the better keeper and you are paying for that upgrade...but is it worth losing a legit chance at the title?

I'm not comfortable to lose the Championship.
I wouldn't trade the title for Giroux.
But I'm not sure to win this year, deal or no deal.
I'm sure I won't get Giroux if I say no.
But I'm sure I will have him if I say yes.
    Really tough call.
    I hate those situations.
If he keeps his pace, Lidstrom would get 27 points down the stretch.
    Gonchar would get 12.
    I lose 15 here.
I think Gonchar will post more than 12.
Giroux vs Gaborik down the stretch?
I say 5 points over for Giroux.
    Total cost : -10 points
    No loss from Whitney.
    We weekly dress 9 forwards.
That would leave me with 11 decent choices (see sig) and still 1 FA pick up (Recchi, Parenteau, Purcell, Stepan, Stoll...).
The other gm is in need of an extra F.

This trade will make it really hard for you to win this year, in my opinion.

But since none of Gonchar/Lidstrom/Whitney are keepers, you pretty much upgrade Gaborik (obviously too injury-prone) to Giroux (money).

So you have to choose between now or later, which is pretty much the choice that every GM faces this time of year (real and fantasy).

I think that giving up for the title when you are so close to it is stupid! Don't do that trade!

I kinda think that I lost the title back in November when I traded D.Sedin for Malkin...
The guy in 1st has Crosby.
If he misses long time, I will win, Giroux trade or no.
If the Kid is back soon, I won't be able to catch him, Giroux deal or no.
    LOL
I'm here trying to convince who?
    You or me?
    Thank you for your opinion.

These guys are all right. You risk losing a shot at the title if you make the trade, but, I think trading Gabby for Giroux is a good move, though a lot of people would argue against it. It looks like a big overpayment now, but what about 2 or 3 years?? I say you win. Lidstrom has slowed down BIG TIME, and only has 3 points in his last 11 games. I don't think he holds the pace he is at right now.

I say, if you really want Giroux, do the deal. If you don't think you can win, do the deal. Yea, you lose out this year, but the only way you are going to get Giroux is with a big overpayment. Lidstrom and Whitney are two dudes I would LOVE to sell high on as they come to the end of their careers. Is it a big risk? Yes, but you also get a top notch offensive dman back in Gonchar, even if he isn't what he used to be.

I would do this deal 'cus I believe in Giroux the way you do, but yea, it's a big risk that could turn out badly. Sometimes a big risk is what will win you the pool (even if it can make you lose sometimes!)

If I was in your position, I would make that trade. I'm always looking for a way to sell a guy like Gaborik when he is healthy, 'cus he's worth virtually nothing when he's hurt.

I still think there's more value in the bowels of this deal than what is seen at the forefront.
