Seems like we're on track, right? Thank god our management is so adept.

I actually don't mind bringing MacT back in this capacity. He's a pretty intelligent guy (he has also earned a Masters Degree in Business since he was let go by the Oil) and I think he's more suited to a managerial role than head coach.

I may be wrong but I don't think it hurts to bring in another hockey mind to assist Tambellini and Lowe. They are an organization that seems to make decisions by committee anyway, so having another sounding board should help. He also seems capable of stepping in as coach or GM if only temporary if it ever came to that down the road.

I will hold out judgement to see what this managerial group does in the off-season. If I see Yakupov and hopefully Schultz in an Oilers jersey next year I'll be a happy camper.

I agree, when you really think back at how Mac T did with the oil in his 8 seasons as head coach, don’t forget that the players on those teams were a tad below average. Player for Player vs. other teams in the league they were pretty bad. Not including the 1! year that Mac had an actual superstar in the human rake and look what happened, One loss away from the holy grail.

I am hoping that this means they will be looking outside the box and bring in Mr. Cooper as the next head coach. No I don’t mean that big black dude that was on TV in the 90's I mean the most interesting man in Hockey, http://oilersnation.com/2012/6/11/th...key-jon-cooper . After I read this blog I was sold and with Mac T there they have a backup plan.

    My offseason game plan is:

    1) Draft Yakupov
    2) Hire Jon Cooper as head coach
    3) Sign Shultz
    4) Trade Hemsky and Gagner for J Staal
    5) Sign Sutter

I’m optimistic on 1 as for 2-5… given the hockey gods seem to hate the oil… you call me a pessimist .

From Dan Tencer's blog on the Oiler's website today. Re: Bringing back Mac-T as Oilers coach.

"Yes, he did have conversations with the Oilers about their vacant coaching position. He decided, much like he did 3 years ago, that it wouldn't be the right fit for either side. Though he admits that the notion of a return has a certain romantic feel to it, he just couldn't shake the idea that a 4 game losing streak in January would reignite the past. He and the organization both want to keep moving forward, so the conversations about his rejoining the organization quickly turned to a different role."

That quote gives me very little hope for the future of the franchise if I am being honest.

There's a lot of things that are giving me very little hope for the future of the franchise.

I'm not one to post rumors or whatever, but FWIW, the same guy that said MacT would be back with the Oilers about a week before the announcement was made has said that management is strongly considering an offer to trade down and take Murray, though they are worried CBJ may take him at 2 and have contemplated taking him at 1.

All that being said, it's nothing that can be verified right now, and I hope Oilers aren't idiotic enough to pass up on Yakupov...

Larionov says Yakupov better pick for Oilers:

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=634579

As much as he is pointing out the obvious, it is kind of unusual for an agent to be so vocal about it.

Well of course Larionov is advising Oilers to take Yakupov, his client, with the 1st overall pick For the Oilers it's not between Yakupov and Galchenyuk, another client of Larionov's, it would be between Yakupov and some D-man so naturally Larionov advises them to go with his client. Not saying his wrong though but he's definitely biased.

i really wish oilers trade the pick. i'll hate them if they end up getting three 1st overalls in a row, i really liked them before, but i just cant bring myself to liking a team that gets 3 straight.

According to Mark Spector, Oilers are keeping the pick.

That in mind, I'm not sure whether to let out a sigh of relief or to continue panicking that they'll select Murray.

The two combined will certainly fill the douchebaggery and IR quota for the team.

Just a joke... I do want Yakupov.

I have a feeling they'll eventually trade one of those forwards after selecting Yakupov. Maybe not this season, but the next.

Seriously, I don't get why their fans are so worried. You'll be able to get some defense and might be able to snag at least a decent guy in the UFA market. Might as well do some RFA snagging as you have enough of a strong core to do it. Should be looking up there.
