If they are quality Dmen, their current teams have no interest in trading them for "Oiler junk" or if they are UFA, there are several other teams interested in their services and they would much rather go anywhere but Edmonton. Tough sell at the moment. This isn't going to be an overnight transition from complete shit team to playoff contender. Most Oiler fans realize this and are willing to be patient.

Is RNH as good or better than Ryan Johansen? I would say no, due to Johansen's enticing combination of size and scoring ability (at least that's what the girls say). If Oiler brass thinks Trouba is worth a shot, then I say it's worth a shot. Not too long ago, Trouba was (or maybe still is?) untouchable in trade talks.
Nope, didn't expect a core piece to move today, and would be surprised if it happened in the summer for the reasons you mentioned.

Name a major UFA signing in Edmonton the last decade or a big name player agreeing to waive their NTC to be an oiler over the past decade?

The pieces are there for PC to make deals, but it will be tough

And yes RyJo is better than RNH

Makes sense. Seems like that's the only spot Yak is really effective. Maybe the Oilers can make him look good before shipping him away in the off-season?

They should have been doing that leading up to the trade deadline.

Very true. Can't believe how low his stock has gotten.

It was more of a joke, but who would take RNH right now? He’s hurt, and has quite the contract. The team that would take him at the deadline from a non-playoff team would be a non-playoff team. Edmonton would want picks/young D, and a non-playoff team isn’t doing that.

Turn to a playoff team, not many playoff “sure ins” aren’t in the need of a 6mill center because either they have 2 solid Centers, or they do not have 6mill in space for a 2nd line center (because that’s what he’d be on a playoff team right now).

Little surprised Yak wasn’t traded, but maybe they feel like they can package him up with someone and either move them during the draft or wait to raise their value next season. Yak’s value = 2nd - 3rd round during this deadline.

hey, I'm thrilled that we were able to unload a bit of baggage for picks. Schultz and Purcell were dead weight. I would have been happy if they were placed on waivers and claimed for nothing. The fact we got draft picks for them is a huge bonus.

And the Schultz pick is basically free since they signed him as a free agent all those years ago. Of course, who knows the extent of the opportunity cost involved with all the development time and salary spent on him over the years but a 3rd rounder, for free!

Outside of the $8,000,000 or so that was paid to Schultz, a 3rd rounder for free.

They would have paid someone to fill that roster spot. Not saying he would have cost that much, or it could have been worse, but a roster spot would have been used one way or the other.

If we're playing that game imagine what the could have gotten for him literally any year besides this one.

Most points in the league since the All Star Break.
#1 in the league in Even Strength Points per Game.
#1 in the league in P/60.
#2 in the league behind Kane in PPG.
He's having a better rookie season than Crosby did (but got injured).

He should win the Calder (though he probably won't because you have a 36 year old "rookie" playing shotgun to Kane this season, hilarious), and he could win the Hart as soon as next season with a full slate of games under his belt.

This is McDavid's league now. Beautiful.

It will be, and could be as soon as next season. Right now, he's a kid with 34 points in 30 games.

Yup, with a huge number of those points at even strength.
