So is Galchenyuk. I firmly believe had he not lost his draft year to injury that he'd have been consensus #1. Too late to go back so I hope this start isn't a mirage for Yakupov. Of course he would wait for a contract year. Even if it was at least partially the coaching staff's fault.

Agreed, Yak has looked good so far, appears to have matured. The team is still struggling overall though.

Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, and Purcell all Day to Day with injuries after getting the tar beat out of them last game (and yet getting all of the penalties .. hmm). Yakimov recalled. This team is in deep trouble already. Surprise, surprise.

I have read that the Oilers have been getting calls on him but not much other than that. I don't see them moving him this early in the year but who knows. I figured as the deadline got closer, they would try and re-sign him and if that fell through they'd look at trade partners. They have plenty of D so as long as they move him for some help down the middle, so be it.

If they are getting a second line C then you do the deal right now. Klefbom/Nurse/Marincin are a drop off in talent from Petry, but the Oiler C depth is AHL level right now.

LA Kings are abslutely mauling the Oilers tonight.

I'm also pretty certain Fasth pulled HIMSELF from the net after the third goal. I'm not even kidding. Wow.

I would have too. This team is embarrassing.

That was odd. It looked as though Fasth went right to the bench after the 3rd goal, without any signal from Eakins. I could swear Fasth was yelling at Scrivens, who looked surprised.

I continue to believe that the Oilers are the most embarassing team in all of professional sports. It seems like they get worse with each additional high draft pick...

I don't know what's more depressing... being an Oilers fan, or one of the 7,311 Panther fans.

It's far worse being an Oiler fan because we used to know what it was like to be a winner.

The thing is they could fire Eakins tonight and it likely won't make a difference.

    Zero center depth.
    Atrocious defense.
    Wingers can't play defense.
And many of them are locked up long term.

I don't see much hope for the Oilers to be a relevant team for another 5 years.
