I agree that they've been relatively successful since bottoming out pre lockout. The realists shouldn't have too much to complain about considering the state of the franchise when management last turned over. They have a pretty young team outside of the General but they definitely need some more offensive punch to truly step into the top 3-6 legitimate cup contenders.

    They need 3 things IMO:
    - 2 REAL top-6 forwards (with 1 being a star i.e. Staal... not necessarily a superstar, but a consistent 70pt player)
    - 1 SOLID 2-way defenseman (I would resign Petry here if the price is right)
    - 1 captain (would love to see Gallagher enter a time machine and come out 4-5 years older/more mature... If not, I don't like the current internal choices)

It's a big grocery list, but that is what will make the difference between making the playoffs and winning the playoffs....

    - Ideally Desharnais goes and two top-six forwards can be brought in. Not sure how but it has to be someone better than Parenteau.
    - I think Petry will be re-signed. Such a great fit.
    - I think Pacioretty will be the captain.

I'd love to see an other top-6 forward. It would take some pressure away from Pacio.

I have absolutely no issue with Plekanec as captain. As in, the captaincy is far down the list of things needing to be addressed as far as improving the team goes.

I think the alternate captain thing worked out fine. Naming Patches would be fine too. The truth is, everyone knows who this team turns to for inspiration. The rules just don't allow him to be captain.

Petry was a great add. Hopefully they can afford to resign him.

The obvious need as everyone's stated is more offensive punch. Gallagher's a dynamo but he's just too small to be a real threat.

I've been disappointed with Galchenyuk's production, but the reality is he's still young. I mean, it took a while for Pacioretty to put it together. I'm still hoping Galchenyuk's natural progression fills part of the need next season.

Beaulieu's emergence is nice to see, especially as Markov is finally starting to show his age.

Meh... they lost fair and square, no major contreversy (maybe the missed off-side, but even if the ref had called it there's no guarantee they would have won) and to a team that I for one don't really hate (no scandals, no outrageous declarations, no player did anything particularly hateful).

So yeah, things could be much worse (it's not as if they had lost in 4 to Boston and the Bruins had taken 2-3 cheap shots at Price, Pacioretty and/or Subban per game with no suspension and Julien bitched about the Habs being fakers all series long (fictionnal scenario!!! in case any Bruins fans have nothing better to do than read a Habs thread and get insulted )).

I cried myself to sleep last night at 3 a.m. That helped a lot.

I think part of it is that for the most part, the Habs outplayed the other team. They just didn't get the bounces. Tampa only outplayed Montreal for the second and third period of Game 2 when their powerplay went nuts, and last night's game.
