This team cannot score goals and is not doing much to create high-quality chances. Where the hell are Gionta, Bourque and Paciorety? Aren't they supposed to be proven goal scorers. Lots of slacking going on here. Occasional good shifts is not enough. Players need to step up and play to their abilities. Too many passengers here. It's the same thing that killed the team two years ago.

    Carey Price

He was outstanding again. Tons of key saves. He did everything that he could to keep the team in the game. It's a tough gig playing when one goal allowed can mean defeat. He stopped 33 of 34 tonight.

    Alexei Emelin

He played well in his return. He skated very well for a guy coming off of a knee injury and was not afraid to throw hits.

    Brendan Gallagher

He returned from the flu but was clearly lacking energy.

    Michael Bournival

With so many vet passengers how the hell does this guy play 7 minutes? Poor coaching IMO.

New forward lines this morning at practice:

    Galchenyuk-Eller-Prust
    Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher
    Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta
    Bournival-Brière-Moen
    White-Parros

Splitting up the kid line to get Pacioretty and Desharnais going. Would've kept Bournival with Plekanec and Gionta as they seem to have decent chemistry together and Bournival simply deserves more ice-time.

Don't know how that changes PP duties but I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Galch-Eller-Gallagher and Bournival-Plek-Gionta worked. Let Pacioretty-Desharnais/Briere-Prust sink or swim on line 3. Not sure what the coach is doing...

Patches looked so good before the lock-out but since then, it seems like he's lost his edge. He still put up the numbers last year so I guess we had to let it go but this year, he's been awful. Not even talking about Bourque who's basically Moen with better offensive skills but can't seem to use them.

Bourque will miss tonight's game. LBI. I bet nobody notices.

Not able to catch much of the game, and something is wrong with the NHL.com game feed, so none of the sports web sites can tell me who scored. Any updates...

Never mind, ESPN has the scoreboard. TSN, Yahoo, NHL are all down.

Something like this was bound to happen. After 18 goals over the last 11 games they tallied 1/3 of that in one night. The even better news is that a couple no-shows decided to show up. And Rene Bourque was up to his usual stuff. I assume he dressed and did nothing.

    Max Pacioretty

I think someone showed him his recent highlight reel before the game started. Or pissed on his helmet. Whatever it was, he was angry and on a mission. I'm sure his faceplant into the modified stanchion contributed as well. But he was outstanding. He looked like a goal scorer again as he potted three goals. The key was finding the slot. It's a lot easier to score from there.

    David Desharnais

He was outstanding as well. For one night he looked like the guy that finally bumped Scott Gomez out of the top-six. Not only were his passes finding his wingers but he was also digging in the corners for pucks.

    Brendan Gallagher

Major kudos to him for doing a lot of the dirty work to create space for Pacioretty and Desharnais.

That's all for now. I'm pretty tired tonight. These games don't happen often so I really hope you enjoyed the ride.

Anyone notice Subban looking sluggish last night? He wasn't bad but I felt like he didn't push the pace much and turned the puck over a few times in situations where it should not have happened. I know he is still growing as a player but I hope his balls don't get chopped off in the process. He still has to be a game breaker. That is where his talent lies. He has to push things forward and make plays.

Don't know if you missed the end of the game but the final score was 6-2 as Heatley scored a PP goal with 2 seconds left on the clock making Price's stat line look average. Again, he was solid in a night where he didn't need to be.

The offense was very solid and all lines contributed. Pacioretty looked like a beast and Desharnais was finally able to get his passes through to his teammates. Gallagher played his role perfectly and produced a pair of helpers as a reward. Galchenyuk could've had a hat-trick as well in this game, missed a lot of chances. He's got to learn to bury those. The defense played well enough, I barely noticed them. Thought Bournival had a strong game and hopefully, he'll soon get better linemates than White and Moen (though both were good last night).

Another back-to-back this weekend with the Caps in Washington and the Pens at home. Budaj getting another start?

You're right about the score. My mistake. I did see the end of the game but probably tuned out mentally.

I think Budaj gets one of the starts this weekend. Not sure which one though.
