The biggest thing needed to change course is to get rid of the dead cap dollars. Gomez and Markov must go. That's 13 million that can be invested towards other improvements, such as filling in depth where it is needed. With that money the team can acquire 3-4 solid players that can contribute immediately.
They will buyout or demote Gomez, I'm pretty sure, but not Markov. He's signed for 2 more years so they'll sit him (hopefully) for the rest of the year so that he's 100% for the 2012/13 season. It's still a risk with his recurring knee issues but if he's healthy he's a HUGE part of this team next year, and could even help make us a dangerous playoff participant. That's not at all the case with Gomez.
